Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is telling Americans to be "skeptical" of news stories that use anonymous sources.
"Americans should exercise caution before accepting as true any stories attributed to anonymous ‘officials,' particularly when they do not identify the country — let alone the branch or agency of government — with which the alleged sources supposedly are affiliated. Americans should be skeptical about anonymous allegations," said Rosenstein in a late Thursday statement.
He added: "The Department of Justice has a long-established policy to neither confirm nor deny such allegations."

It’s not difficult to read between the lines here: Trump has gotten word that something devastating about him is about to leak from a foreign intelligence agency, and he’s twisting the DOJ into preemptively debunking it.
Based on the fact that this was released late at night rather than first thing tomorrow morning, our educated guess is that the forthcoming leak is coming from the European intel community.
Rod could be looking to save his own ass as to why his special investigation is leaking.
The leaks are NOT coming from the FBI, Mueller or his team.

A legal news pundit was positing that it could have come from one of the people FBI has asked to speak to regarding the investigation or someone connected to those people such as their legal team or family/friends.
