Since Minnesota is good with this officer, hope the Castille family sues in civil court. Let their taxpayers pay.
I'm in Minnesota and no way am I good with this cop, hope they take every last cent he has or ever will have and he winds up living in a cardboard box.

He's a public employee, they would likely sue the city.
That man did not deserve to get shot. The cop stopped the car because he thought Philando matched the description of a suspect from a robbery earlier.
Every time one of these shootings happen they reach and overcharge. It's sad but this is the eventual outcome when you cave to "the public" outcry instead of charging for a lesser, and therefore more likely, criminal/negligent outcome.

What should the charge have been? Trespassing on his person?

Police officers are given much more leeway in discretion than civilians in these situations. The courts and legislation in this country have set that tone...especially in the last 30-40 years.
You wanna live in a State (as in an involuntary statist geographic zone) then you're going to be subject to the courts, lawmakers and armed agents of that State.
As an anarchist I get told to move to Somalia all the time if I don't like the "rules".
I'm not going to say that to you because I want you and the other statists to see for yourself that, at least on this topic, the conflict of one entity (the police representing the State) having a "legalized monopoly" on force over another (us civilians...or subjects if you ask me) is inherently illogical, unjust and immoral.
It looks like I'm defending the cop to a certain extent. I'm not really defending him as I am pointing to the consequences of the realities most folks have chose to put their money down on.
Losing my life over a traffic stop is something I don't want to induce considering it's on the table already because of the circumstances I've been dealt.
I'm also going to pay taxes, get my permits, and not break other laws. Not because I believe in them but because my caging or death won't do me any good nor make others question the validity of such things.
The verdict was bull ****. I don't support the idiots that riot for no reason but anyone that thinks there isn't a divide in Justice for blacks and especially poor is just as stupid.
Police should be tried line the military when they screw up.

I'm not a lawyer, just seems like they overreach. Would you rather keep losing or maybe get somewhat of win from time to time in these cases?
Doesn't this get downright embarrassing? Every time these guys get shot they're hailed as hero's of impeachable character with no culpability in their own demise, the victims of a racist and violent NRA/gun addicted cop's who kill people in the streets for no reason society.
And the losses keep adding up. Trayvon. Eric Garner. Freddie Gray. Michael Wilson. Philando Castile.
Whatever, keep overreaching and get used to losing.
