Much? It was a 3.8% tax, and only on certain income. Sales tax is more than that in most places. Chicago, for example, has a sales tax of 10.25%.

Now, if Chicago cut that sales tax rate down to 9%, would they be GIVING people money? Or just taking less of the money people already have?

Lol. Even the attempt is going to cost them.

Totally agree.

I think all Democrats should get behind this bill.

Let's get it passed.

I'm not the one who said 'giving'. Take up your argument with whoever said that.

3.8% on a billionaires oncome is a hell of a lot of money.
You understand how percentages work right?

This bill nothing to do with sales tax

Anyway, I'm all for passing this bill!!
Let's go at it!

That's an excellent point.

From our experience, we should understand that money does not make or break the success of a plan.

We need to dig in to the details. There's a bunch of waste out there.
The latest GOP talking points, sounds like the same BS from Johnson (R-Wis.) this morning.

At least 2.5% if the Medical Device tax is lifted (if you needed these items) and $695 per person (but no more than $2,085 per family) if the ACA penalties are dropped (if you choose not to have medical insurance)
I'm sure there's more but I'm not going to get into the weeds.

But Democrats actually going on record as wanting our healthcare to be equal to the rest of the civilized world would help. They have not done this yet. Actually taking the stance that they support some form of universal healthcare would differentiate them from the GOP, who have proven yet again that they care nothing about ordinary Americans.

The time is ripe for the Democrats if they have the courage to take the initiative here.

Yes. But why should a billionaire pay that much in Fed tax anyway? How much in Fed Gov services is that one person using? Certainly nowhere near as much as he's paying in taxes. Why should he massively overpay for exactly the same access to government benefits/services that 47% of tax filers get for free? Whatever happened to the Constitution's equal protection clause? If others get Fed Gov services/benefits for free, why can't he?

The sales tax was used as an example to show that a tax cut doesn't give anyone money. It just takes less of the money that person already had.

If federal $ to states for medicaid is cut perhaps the states will take the hint to be more responsible in spending their medicaid dollars to ensure that only the ones who need it (or are legal) get it. And they might be more apt to seek out and prosecute fraud when it isn't an endless stream of $ coming from the fed.

The senate bill is basically Obamacare with tax breaks for the rich and a repeal of Medicaid.
