When you really think about it, we humans do not deserve to inhabit this planet. We hate each other, we poison our water and air, and kill off every other species in the name of progress.
The earth will be better without us on it, but it is sad.
Fundamentalists believe they will all be swept up in the rapture so they don't have to worry about the planet. It's one of the reasons many conservatives care so little about our Earth.
Ok, there is a teeny amount of poetic justice in this rapture nonsense. There was a guy who was selling rapture insurance before the last predicted date. If you were raptured, he would care for your pets. He made a bunch of money.
My husband and I always joke that we should start a religion to get rich like L Ron Hubbard did. But my conscience won't let me fleece morons.

This is true.
Most fundamentalists believe that we are living in the end times and the rapture will occur any day now followed by the seven-year reign of the Anti-Christ and destruction of the earth. The earth definitely isn't making it to 2100. That's why issues like climate change and species extinctions are non-issues to them and since they control our political narrative...

The earth will be here long after we're gone. Now you all are beating up on Christains sad
Sadly, I think there is even less chance of us working together on this issue than working together on the causes of climate change that we humans have some control over. It would take serious talk about reducing the population, limiting consumption, setting aside more land for non-humans... I fear we are too selfish and short-sighted to hold out much hope.

No, not all Christians, just the ones who take the Rapture as a kind of environmental Get out of jail free card. There are a couple of problems with the soon-to-be-the-end-of-the-World point of view. One is that the oncoming End can be used as an excuse for not maintaining the physical World as humanity's habitat for the foreseeable future.
Two - Where are people supposed to live in the meantime, pending the end of the World? If you have children & grandchildren, the normal kind of thing that all societies have - it's not like there's a gated community that we can retreat to if environmental collapse happens before the Rapture. If the entire biosphere collapses, then there is no source of fresh food - we can distill water, we can make oxygen & trace gases - if we have enough power & a base to work from. But food - crops, fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, chicken & so on - require a lot more space & attention to their inputs.
You will notice that whenever there is a declaration of impending calamity, that WE STILL HAVE TIME. There is still a chance to reverse it! Act now, supplies are running out!
What does fault have to do with it? We have the capacity, particularly in conjunction with others, to affect change. Yet there is no will to do so because, among other things, we are too busy whining NOT MY FAULT, HE DID IT FIRST like a 3 year old.
Let's not forget that everyone else also seems to think that the USA needs to fund it.
