if Republicans are so concerned about voter fraud, why are they destroying the Fed. Election Assistance Agency? (elections, states)

And it's perfectly reflected in their agenda: voter suppression, cut back health care, dismantle public education, etc.
And Democrats thing that the public is too stupid to think, or care for themselves and need the FED to do all of our thinking for us. We all know the Fed knows what's really best for us right?
How many election agencies do you need? We have Local, County, State and Federal election agencies. What service is this agency going to provide those four cannot?
The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has ZERO to do with Voter Fraud. The don't "inspect" anything, the Office of the Inspector General for the EAC don't even have any Inspectors - when they are charged (usually by another Agency) to "inspect" an issue - they have to do a Memorandum with another Agency to get "inspectors". They publish a lot of information on their website about Elections - this is a resource for State/Local Elections Officials and it's a good one. Offers a lot of good advice and answers to questions - thing is, the data was completed in 2003 - 14 years ago. That data doesn't go "poof" just because a horribly top bloated Agency with only the authority to give away MONEY is eliminated.
This is their Mandate according to the -Financial Audit Report Fiscal Year 2015-2016 The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is an independent, bipartisan commission charged with developing guidance to meet the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 requirements, adopting voluntary voting system guidelines, and serving as a national clearinghouse of information about election administration. EAC also accredits voting system testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, and audits the use of HAVA funds. Other responsibilities include distributing and monitoring HAVA funds provided to States and other grantees; and maintaining the National Mail Voter Registration form developed in accordance with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. The Audit report is different from most I've read - they constantly state that they don't guarantee this report because they are only looking at what they are given with no way to verify - the OIG has NO Investigative Unit for this Agency for some odd reason.
It appears the EAC has (or had) only main functions:
1). Compile and make available to States & Local Election Boards the requirements for Federal Grants & Modernization of Voting Equipment under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 & Collecting/Maintaining a National Voter Registration Base under the 1993 National Voter Registration Act.
3). Give away a lot of Money.
They have NO enforcement Authority, they have no real oversight, they mostly have "acting" Directors, they don't even have an Inspector General with real Investigators.
They do have 22 employees with an annual budget of $10 Million dollars and are the sole distributor of HAVA funds (in the Billions). They also have a Standards Board of Directors with 110 members (that is NOT a typo) and an Executive Board of 9 members PLUS an Advisor Board of 37 Members AND a Technical Guidelines Development Committee of 14 members who actually manage the Certification of Voting in a separate Agency called the National Institute of Standards and Technology
Using my trusty calculator - the EAC has 179 Board members/advisors and 22 worker bees.
No wonder they need $10 Million dollars a year - Executive Boards have cushy salaries & bennies.
Congress is correct to remove this BLOAT that doesn't even appear to have much oversight - they set up the information they were set up. They don't perform ANY function that is exclusive to the EAC.
Perhaps it's not doing a very good job. I also understand that many states are not co-operating with investigators. Looks like Republicans aren't the only ones not concerned about voter fraud.
What was the IP address of this attack? From where did it originate?

What? They exist to enforce campaign finance law. That's it.
You really should have some idea what an agency actually does before you call for eliminating it.

It's bloat..........
Well, I guess your position is, with Russian hacking a certainty into our electoral process in future elections, let us start our defense against this hacking by dismantling a federal agency that was started to monitor and secure our voting machines.

So, even under your post the EAC serves the purpose of accreditiing voting systems and certifying them.
Gee, that seems like a pretty damn important job to me in this day and age.
One national organization looking after the voting systems we use instead of 50 separate entities.
Sounds logical to me.
Only conservatives would blast an agency charged with ensuring election integrity. But that is the new Repub party. As long as election hacking benefits you, to hell with its future consequences.

NOPE ...... they are paper shufflers that give out MONEY.
I gave the LINK to the Government Agency that actually does the technical work of "accrediting voting systems and certifying them".
Technical Guidelines Development Committee of 14 members who actually manage the Certification of Voting in a separate Agency called the National Institute of Standards and Technology
They are not worried at all about voter fraud. They are trying to find ways to restrict and control voting in ways that are likely to favor them. Everyone knows this is just the excuse being given.
