I've been wondering whether this will make any difference in Puerto Ricans' support for statehood.

if it drives the poor off the island, it leaves behind the rich... the tax haven laws are still there so the rich wont leave. they can afford to rebuild as well

turn it into a vacation destination like cancun or miami and let it be a playground for drunk rich americans

Congress would never ratify it. At least not this congress.

Puerto Rico will likely lose even more of its best and brightest. After this hurricane, the persons who have the resources to leave will do so.

Island living is expensive. Everything has to be shipped over a huge body of water. Either you are rich or if you live there and a commoner, you have a very expensive cost of living compared to stateside.

To rebuild there when so much destruction is a very long time coming.. If they rebuild the homes there, the codes have to be much stricter. . The homes should be fortified. That means much more costs. It could happen again.. Pray for Puerto Rico. Just heard they are burying their police who were killed in the storm.

I would tend to believe this person, someone that actually knows what they're talking about, over the butt-hurt liberals that are still whining because they lost an election.

Their citizenship entitles them to vote, and they tend to overwhelmingly support Democratic candidates.

Florida-based Republican operative Rick Wilson thinks the hurricane might be a game changer. “If you put an influx of 100,000 Puerto Ricans who vote Democratic eight times out of 10 in the Orlando area, there you go,” he said."

Possibly, it would not require many if they settle in the right counties.

But since each would need job I imagine any displaced would move around quite a bit, especially if there are a lot of them. Possibly tipping Georgia or Texas in statewide races.

Perhaps Trump in his gracious good heart would hire a few at his resorts (instead of importing foreigners who require work visas as he commonly does).

Not just Florida, but several other swing states have large Puerto Rican populations, which will get even larger after this hurricane. States like Pennsylvania, Ohio, & Virginia. Not all PR hurricane victims will go to Florida, you guys are making it seem like that, its likely to recieve 30-45% , with the rest going to other eastcoast states.

In fact Pa has the second fastest growing PR population after Florida, and may grow even faster than Florida due to the catergory 5 hurricane may shift most PR migration back to the Northeast. In particular Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, Lancaster, York, & Harrisburg, and maybe even Pittsburgh.
