Las Vegas was tragic, but I don't know why everybody is clutching their pearls about it. We have a couple mass shootings every year and we'll have more in the future. People are acting like it's something that has never happened before, but it has - many, many times.
This sense of righteous outrage doesn't cover the fact that we accept this in our society. And nothing will change because we don't have the political will to change. Other countries have a fraction of the gun violence we have, but as long as the NRA considers a few hundred people getting their heads blown off every once in a while acceptable, and as long as they can bribe members of Congress to continue to make an unlimited number of guns available to anybody who wants them, nothing is going to change.
The old adage about only criminals getting guns may be partially true, but we do everything we can to put them in their hands because they are available just about anywhere to anybody.
If those dead children in Newtown couldn't spur change, then we as a society accept this collateral damage every few months.
Nonsense.
So by your logic, auto dealerships can be sued if thier customers are arrested for DUI?
Paint companies for graffiti? Walmart for illegal use of any of thier products?
Previous owner of a used car, if the new owner uses it in a robbery?
Do cars have another purpose? Yes. Paint? Yes. Guns are designed to kill and so is ammunition. It looks like this guy bought in the neighborhood of 50 guns between what was in the hotel room and at his house. At what point does that gain scrutiny? We should look at that but of course the NRA is paid by gun manufacturers so they will do anything they can to stop a level of questioning to occur after someone has purchased a huge number of guns and ammo.

You are rambling.
Nothing you just said is in response to your original comment.
Should we hold previous owners of items legally responsible for future owners use of those items?
As far as "a huge number", that is completely subjective and relative. In my life I have known more people than could ever recall that owned much much more than is said to have been owned by this shooter.
What difference does it make if he had 4 guns or 400?
A person can only shoot one gun at a time.
He had several handguns and shotguns in his arsenal - neither of which would have done much from 32nd floor of hotel.
A national registry would identify this, and so would a seller required to make reports regarding a same buyer. I don't pretend to know the answers but it actually makes a huge difference if a buyer buys a single gun or 400. Why does he need 400 guns? Why does need need so much ammunition? I'm sure the victims of the Las Vegas shooting, all 500+ of them, would like to see that answered.
come up with different technology. eye scan, voice activation, whatever.
wouldn't you feel bad if your stolen gun was used to shoot a baby in the head?
I would feel bad, of course. But I wouldn't feel guilty. I didn't give the gun to the shooter. They broke in and stole it from me. That is not my fault. And a conundrum for liberals, quite frankly. They hate castle-doctrine laws, but if I have to use any means to keep that gun from walking out the door and shooting a baby in the head, even if I am not personally threatened by that thief at the time, can I shoot the thief?
I'd also feel bad if I had a gun, was wounded, and when my spouse reached for it to protect us, he failed because of this technology.
Never ending conventions in Las Vegas. Exhibitors often check in with trunks, boxes, tubs and tons of luggage. Bell hops unload it all and transport it all to guest rooms. Nothing unusual about it.
Agreed you can wheel in a cart with POST UP STANDS and no one will say a thing. Each post up stand case can hold a rifle.

Depends. Is the previous owner selling 50 guns to the same buyer? Is the previous owner selling a massive amount of ammunition to the same buyer? Does a background check flag if the buyer has bought 20+ guns and ammo? This guy had a huge arsenal and he used it go kill and injure a massive amount of people. One would think a guy buying 50 guns would get flagged somehow somewhere.

Exactly. I think I could wheel in an orangutan and probably not get stopped in Las Vegas.
