He wouldn't stand a chance being choosen in today's climate. Especially as a Republican, maybe as a Democrat.

Straw man. Call it "freer trade" if it makes you happy. RR disliked tariffs and supported free/freer trade agreements, including NAFTA - a stance which, if held today, would make him accused of being a globalist traitor by many Trump fans. Anybody who denies that has blinders on.

And almost everybody supports immigration.
Not on a large scale, and not with amnesty for illegals.

And lots of REPs support amnesty for illegals.
That is true, and it is those REPs who are accused of being RINOs.

So, post fail but try again.
On the contrary, complete success. And it appears the majority here agree with me.

USA has been moving steadily to the Right for decades; and the pace accelerated in the 80's. So yeah, he'd be left of center in today's political climate.

With the alliteration already built into his name, it is easy to imagine the Trumpian insult nickname: Ronald "RINO" Reagan. Yes, he would be considered a RINO by a large faction of the republican party, many just don't want to admit it because they have built an emotional attachment to his namesake, what with him being the most recent legitimately charismatic republican president. Provides a pretty good illustration of exactly how useless the "republican" and "democrat" labels are in regards to historical analysis when their respective philosophies can shift so much in the span of a few decades....

A good portion of the "Right" has gone bonkers -- well to the right of Reagan and Goldwater who were sort of the poster children of conservatism. People like Priebus and so-called "RINO" conservatives are trying to maintain at least a shred of rationality and fend off the extremists while 'adjusting' the GOP toward the center. The moderate GOP are looking for a way out. The rest are in lifeboats or are probably thinking about jumping ship. Every Republican president would be considered a RINO by the current standards of the extreme conservatives. They are painting themselves into a corner and the only way out is to trash the constitution in favor of King Donald. You see it on these threads every single day.

One thing would decide: his feelings toward Trump.

These days, only thing that seems to matter in terms of RINO status is allegiance to that POS.

It's tough to say how he would fall on some other issues of today, but probably those issues listed above by themselves would make him be considered a RINO in the eyes of many Trump fans.
there is no way any of us really know.

He granted amnesty to illegals for one reason and it totally back fired. Most do not know the entire story.
He later regretted it.

A lot of conservatives are in favor of a plan for immigrates, It remains what plan will work and be fair to all. He was not overall in favor of illegals just crossing or border and making this their home, nor was he in favor of supporting them by using federal programs.

I am a conservative and I too happen to think there are as many pros as cons when it comes to NAFTA.

You haven't mentioned his stand on foreign policies. His belief that abortion should never be paid for with government money or after he signed the abortion bill in CA he regretted it. How about his belief anyone on welfare unless disabled should work in some way, even if it was nothing more than dusting off parking meters.

I can go on and on. He was not a RINO regardless of what some may think. He also wasn't as conservative as some want to think.

Don't you know that saint Reagan was born in a manger and died for our sins? Mostly the sin of stupidity.
