Jim Webb would be president right now if the hard left not hijacked the party. He is a good man. don't agree with him on everything but I would not be upset if he were president.

reagan is clearly to the left of Trumpism. the question posed is if he is far enough left to be called a rhino. And it is clear from the poll that so far the vast majority believe that these days the Rs would call Reagan a Rhino..

Abe was a pretty rough and autocratic man himself...he had no problem going around the Constitution, when he felt it was needed.

He suspended Habeas Corpus during the Civil War--and was stashing enemies in sanitariums long before Stalin. I'll not judge..it was an extreme time.

Abe would be a Centrist--like Kasich...and yeah, they call him a RINO.

Don't confuse Jack with Bobby.

Bobby was the civil rights guy and it seems to me that escalating the war in Vietnam is a funny way of ending the military/industrial complex.

Yes.

If you look at the stances he held and the policies that he implemented, it is very possible that today he would be considered by some to be a "RINO".

And yes, that is ridiculous.

Part of the issue with today's Republican party is that there really is no single idea of what it is to be "Republican". More highlighting of just how insufficient our two party system is. It's not really a groundbreaking revelation, either...one shouldn't expect to capture all possible political spectrum/philosophies in just two parties. The same issues affect the Democratic party, too (although not as extremely, I think).

Some are comparing Trump to Reagan. So how would that make him a RINO? Reagan is revered by almost all conservatives today.

At a policy and stance level, they are not very similar.

People can make any claim they want, but beyond the fact that they both have an "R" before their name, they don't share a great deal in common.

regardless if Jack or Bobby was the driving force, as POTUS JFK did the following:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Report...n_Civil_Rights

JFK told Arthur Schlesinger that he wanted to "splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds". That to me sounds like a man to end the complex.
