When the English settlers arrived, they came upon an established, sovereign United States of Amerindians with a national identity and borders that matched present day. that pertains to the Spanish speaking countries of the Americas, which we are not. Your response was out of context. I was responding to a post that basically posited Amerindian languages occupy an equal or even superior position in this country as indigenous languages. They do not. English is integral to this country in a way that Amerindian languages aren't.

There are tons of place names of Amerindian origin in this country too. But like I argued, that doesn't make those languages integral to America in the same way English is. There are plenty of French origin place names too. Are you going to argue that French is on par with English in this country, too?
