Open carry of handguns is also allowed in nearly every state, it looks like it's not legal in 3 states.

No it's not allowed "everywhere". Counties like mine won't issue and there are a lot of those counties. I shouldn't have to move across the State or Country to be able to CCW.
Inner city gang, and drug related crime make up most of the violent crime stats in the U.S. Yes, many, are Black, some are Hispanic, and some are White. If you want to avoid violent crime, stay out of the GHETTO.
Most large mass shootings don't happen in the ghetto.
We have by far the most guns of any country on Earth with the highest rates of gun ownership. We also have the overwhelming majority of gun deaths, especially of women and children on the planet.
The safest countries on Earth have lower gun ownership and heavy gun restriction.
Which should not be the case based on pro-gun talking points. We should be the safest in the world with so many people owning guns.
Why the contradiction?
I am no way a "pro gun" person, but after doing the research i will admit guns are not the issue.
The pharmaceutical industry prescribing unnecessary amounts of drugs to people turning them into monsters is the root of the problem... the gun is just the tool these monsters use.
It really is sad to see that The New York Times has become strictly a liberal/progressive propaganda outlet of pure lies.
Only in the eyes of right wing extremists. The rest of us find it the best source around. It does lean left editorially but it is still an exceptional source of truth...even though some dislike truth.

The fact that there are so many ghettos in the US and that they're so violent still reflects on the country as a whole.
These are problems that need to be addressed, not swept under the rug.
