Question? Being a cop, I have always wondered why most police are pro second amendment?
I'm not a cop (I am military, however), but I'd think that being a cop/retired cop would make one more pro-second amendment. Police see the benefit of guns being the hands of law-abiding citizens daily. Moreover, cops know that they are generally called AFTER a crime has been committed, when its often too late.

Because cops know firsthand that they usually arrive in time to take statements and process/protect crime scenes, not to protect/save victims. And as someone else said, cops are generally conservative.

As said in later posts most cops do lean right politically. Me personally I owned two guns when I was working. Now retired I own 10 of them. I take them to the range. I enjoy shooting them. I am very proficient with them. When I worked in the NYPD we had excellent response times. I did a couple of tours down at 911 call center and I saw how long it took for the call to come in before the unit was dispatched and then how long it took for someone to arrive. So lets say someone was breaking into your house. They want to hurt you and your family. Lets say that call comes to 911 before the act happens. Its going to take 10 minutes normally for that cop can get there. There can be a lot of damage and personal harm done in 10 minutes. Now lets look at most of the calls. They happen after the fact. So the crime has already been committed. Citizens have the right to protect themselves and their families.

You couldn't tell by watching all the police chiefs and sheriffs on TV.
