They should have firearms safety courses as optional course in high school to supplement sex ed. We waste an entire semester on sexual education but something as crucial as knowing how to properly handle a firearm goes untaught.
I'm not a cop (I am military, however), but I'd think that being a cop/retired cop would make one more pro-second amendment. Police see the benefit of guns being the hands of law-abiding citizens daily. Moreover, cops know that they are generally called AFTER a crime has been committed, when its often too late.

Won't be too long before some of those guns end up in mass murder situations. Then we'll hear that the perpetrators had mental illness. It will be more opportunities to offer condolences, light candles and say more prayers. Rinse and repeat.
