Money (including precious metals, sorry gold bugs) will have no worth when there are no jobs, it would be the end of capitalism

Most likely, the five people that will own everything in the world will kill off all of the “worthless eaters.” The plutocrats don’t need any other humans once they’ve created a vast automated system for enriching themselves.

But then once they die, in that scenario, that's it, no more humans

I'm sure they could devise a system that did not sacrifice so much genetic diversity that we went extinct. You need a nucleus of people.

The bigger question is where does demand come from, and price discovery, if there are no more consumers?

The short answer is that the consumer economy is largely extraneous to human development. It funds R&D and gives legitimacy to the wealth distribution system, and thus enables social order. But that latter aspect falls away if you can efficiently impose social order using machines, and the former aspect falls away if your machines lower the cost of R&D such that it's a pittance compared to total productivity. Then there is no more need for the consumer.

There will probably be a nucleus of highly talented and trained people who keep directing human events for some time.

Money is fiat created by our gov't and a utility for all the people, not just the rich. As long as we have the resources and productivity we can accommodate our people. We are not USD constrained. But we are resource and productivity constrained.

Neither is China.

Why so glum? The industrial revolution caused an explosion in economic growth and a widespread rise in the standard of living. Why would a robotic revolution cause panic, starvation and death?

Why is everyone so cynical and negative?

Once 100% unemployment hits, the robot owners will have no customers to buy the widgets that their robots produce. Robot owners will then support the government imposition of a robot tax and Universal Basic Income. People will get paid money without having to work. People buy products again, robots go back to the production line, and the owners are happy because they have revenue and profits again.

Some people on UBI will be a lump on the couch and do nothing. A majority of people will quickly get bored with that. They will create cottage businesses, learn a skill, and add to the economy. It is possible to have an optimistic outcome to all of this.

Many people will surf in virtual reality doing all sorts of stuff, much like kids today that live non-productively in their video games.

Delusional nonsense designed to appeal to the collection of overgrown children in Deep Left Field.

The unfortunate fact is that there are all manner of simple, interpersonal tasks which require either manual dexterity or a thought process that technology can't replicate, and is unlikely to do so, or a measure of just-plain tact. And the principal consumers of these tasks are likely to be elderly, infirm, disoriented, or just not playing with a full deck. Definitely not what the Snowflake Generation has in mind.

These are the hard facts of life, boys and girls, and while you'll immediately scream "racism", "misogyny", or whatever buzzword comes to mind -- these issues transcend all races and social classes.

And the people you scorn as "rednecks", "Trumpettes"-- or whatever, have a far better grasp of what needs to be done, and who's going to do it.

At this point, you will likely start beating the drum for euthanasia -- until it's your turn.
