I don't know if it would have made a difference or not, but why did this woman choose to call her husband BEFORE calling 911? If she was on the phone with her husband for even a minute, that is a minute earlier that the police could have responded with sirens blaring, and it might have "spooked" the burglar BEFORE she was gunned down. I also noticed that this crime occurred in an affluent suburb; crime happens everywhere.
There are no certainy in anything,a firearm can save your life or it may not,my arguement is politicians who stop people from having a choice are possibly preventing someone from protecting themself.
First thing I would have done is get my weapon,go to a safe zone in the house with one access doorway to me and then called 911.

True. Then again none of us should be judging this poor woman or blaming the victim for what happened. I think the best thing one could do is to sleep with a loaded weapon and fully-charged cell phone in the drawer of your nightstand so if you think an intruder is burgling your home you can quickly reach over, grab the means of defense, and then retreat to a safe hiding place to call 911. If you sense that the intruder is approaching, you can then let him bite the bullet.

Reason: Typo
I don't get the idea of having to run and hide in your own home when someone breaks in. This sounds like the potential victim should be in fear, when the fear should be put into the criminal. If someone enters your home illegaly, you should legally be allowed to shoot him dead with no legal reprecussions. The only job of the police is to remove the body. The home owner should be congratulated from ridding society of vermon that prey on innocent people. I guess this is too easy of a solution.
Well, if guns were outlawed the guy would not have had a gun to begin with to shot the lady. dirrrrrrrr.
I really hope this wasn't a serious statement. If it was, here's some advice: get on the short bus, get yourself an education, THEN come back and voice your opinions.

Well, you don't have to, but if you choose the spot where the encounter will take place, you automatically have the advantage. That would be my thinking. I'd much rather take on someone in my living room than my bathroom for example. There's a lot more room to maneuver and he wouldn't have to get up in my face for me to take a shot at him.

I agree with you RoaminRed. You want to use every advantage you have when and where the confrontation takes place.
My point was that as a homeowner you should never have to live in fear of criminals in your own house. They are the ones that should fear you.

Typical Liberal response from above..... dependent on the Government and now she IS DEAD. Now your questioning her calling her husband? The man she comitted her life too and she probably in last phone call got to talk to the man she loved. Crime exists everywhere and we have laws and restrictions that make good people harder to defend themselves. While criminals go free, criminals have guns, criminals break all the laws and good people suffer. I'm sick of this crap and I'm not going to take it anymore and liberals have become my sworn enemny from now on. Give me my guns with out restrictions and lets see if criminals are so brave. Then we have the liberals who say it wasnt the criminals fault he was the product of the poor. Their are many poor people who are not criminals. People all over the world do not steal, and do not kill people and rape them of their life. This person made a choice and if he walked into a home that wasnt his, threated and did harm I wish she had a gun and shot him dead.
I think he would be more spooked if she was standing there with a 12 gauge shotgun.
