Wedged into Paul Ryan’s Thursday press conference was a brief tangent about “entitlement reforms,” in which the Speaker emphasized the need for “higher birth rates.”

“This is going to be the new economic challenge for America: People. Baby Boomers are retiring... I did my part but we need to have higher birth rates in this country,” Ryan said. “Baby Boomers are retiring and we have fewer people following them into the workforce,” he explained, pointing to the low number of people entering the American workforce, a stark contrast to the high numbers of Boomers retiring. “[We’re] going to need more people,” Ryan said.
I found this to be hypocritical coming from the GOP. We see it here every day. Do not have babies unless you can afford them. Guess what? Many people can't afford health insurance, good schools, daycare, etc. Don't complain when you get what you ask for.

What an idiot! I guess he's a fan of the Ponzi scheme. Should we be constantly replacing the boomers instead of getting pass this generation and scaling back our population growth? A smaller population to fit a smaller economy makes more sense.

There are millions of unemployed Americans and yet we have a worker shortage? Well, get rid of illegal aliens and you'll see more tax paying Americans back to work.

I agree.

What he means is we need more wage slaves.

We need more consumers to scam.

We need more taxpayers to pick up the slack when the 1% get their big breaks.

We need more suckers to come into this Ponzi scheme of an economy, or the bubble will collapse.

There's a worker shortage with or without these illegal aliens. He didn't say, "Illegal aliens are the reason we have a labor shortage." He specifically said we simply don't have enough people to fill labor's needs.

My husband and I wanted to have two more children. The number one reason why we didn't was the cost of daycare, followed closely by the cost of health insurance. And I'm not the only one who limited the number of children she had because of these reasons. MANY working women I know have zero children or only one, possibly two, because daycare is astronomical. Most people can't afford it even with two people working full time.

And you believe him? If you believe so then please post a link proving it from a viable, unbiased source. Are these jobs that supposedly have a labor shortage paying a fair wage?

What is a fair wage ? If we are going to be specific that would be good place to start.

How can hard working Americans like me afford kids when we are stuck paying for everyone elses kids, entitlements, taxes, etc? If I got my fair share, I would happily reproduce, but as conservative logic dictates, if you can't afford it, than don't.

Not to mention, no paid family and medical leave, so many women have to choose between a job or having children. And worker's rights being one of the worst in the developed world, like the sick leave and overtime pay situation for most workers. Not conducive to family life.
