But don't you see something wrong with this statement? This is apparently what it has come to, but that isn't what it should be or has to be.
I know that police officers have tough jobs. I know that they had every reason (probably) to think this was a real incident and emergency. But it wasn't. And now an innocent guy is dead. For, basically, opening the door to his own home. And while the caller is definitely culpable and a disgusting human being, he didn't pull the trigger.
I see why you say not to do anything but put your hands up and listen to the cops, but this is great advice for those who actually did something and have been caught. This poor guy was probably confused AF and didn't know what the hell was going on. He probably didn't even think about where his hands were going. This is just tragic, really.
It would not have happened if the swat team was not sent there. It was a lie set in motion.

It's a sad but true statement in 2017 America. It's been proven many times that Cops have no hesitation in gunning someone down for just slightly disobeying their commands.
Since that's not likely to change anytime soon it's best to practice up on your Simon Says playing skills in the meantime. There should be classes offered called "Surviving Police Encounters 101" at local community centers and the like. The instructors can yell out various commands, while pointing paintball guns at you, and if you mess up even slightly they respond accordingly.
Always treat the American Police Officer as God in even the simplest of encounters including traffic tickets. Make no fast movements. Obey their every command. Keep your hands up. Even this is no guarantee of survival during an encounter but it should up your chances.
A person committing a crime resulted in an innocent man being killed. There is some blame to go around, but it should begin with the initial crime that set everything in motion. It needs to be punished and a statement made. The cop who pulled the trigger should also answer for his mistake.
a terrible tragedy leaving many questions ---
calling the cops on people you don't like- to get even, is not new -
refusing to cooperate with police is not new
suing the police is not new
but my concern is --- in the long run ---
it would appear collectively--- we are training the police to ignore emergency calls for help
100% negative conditioning
if you beat a dog every time you call him- he will eventually stop coming
will this reduction in services be helpful to the community?

Do you want the police to come if there is a good chance they will shoot you?
The caller should be charged with murder 1....life in prison or worse.
The ONE cop that got scared and trigger happy while ALL THE OTHERS didn't see enough threat to shoot should be AT A MINIMUM fired from their job...and arguably charged depending upon full investigation.
*reaching* is BS.
ALSO, any good seal team or SAS operation involves watching the target. Soooo, why not observe for 10 minutes and when you see the dude watching TV with his family thru the window....maybe you don't gun them down?
Who says, the caller said he had his mother and younger brother in the back of the house in her room in a closet.. he could have doused the closet area only .....could have smelled it.. get real.
The caller didn't mention gasoline until after the victim had been shot:
Quote:
at 6:44pm SWAuTistic said he had poured gasoline around the home and was thinking about lighting it; Fitch was shot at 6:43pm
The shooter should get life in prison. He killed a man for no reason. And no one did any due diligence here.
I swear, the type of checks and verifications you have to go through to take an exam like SAT, CFA, CPA, etc. are extensive. And you have to do all this before they even hand out the exam. Yet apparently anyone can call in the SWAT team - over the internet - and they'll show up and kill an innocent person; no checks done whatsoever.
The most disgusting part of this entire story, to me, is that anyone can call the cops with a story like this and they fully expect harm and hardship to come down on the target. That is, by far, the most damning indictment of modern American policing. If you ask the cops, they say they are here to help people. Yet, they prove time and time again that they cannot be trusted, and simply bring violence to a non-violent situation.
The poster who asked if police withdrawal would be better for the community: absolutely. Especially if the citizens would ever decide to start taking out the trash themselves. Police included.
[*******] cops. Most dangerous criminal element walking the streets.
