The new talking point now is that instead of tariffs being great for the economy and the American worker, it will eventually be great sometime in the future, who knows, maybe 10-20 years from now. In the meantime, the US worker is supposed to suffer more pain and misery. How many will buy into this new propaganda remains to be seen.

Aren't you the guy who claimed that Obama merely "stabilized" the economy?
He didn't "stabilize" it. He turned it around from one that was crashing to one that was growing. It was the 3rd longest economic expansion in American history. It wasn't a gangbusters turn around, but it was steady and reliable - with month after month after month of consistent economic growth.

THAT was the environment Trump inherited.

Ken

Yes, it was Obama's economy until they start pushing the recession idea, now it's Trump's economy.

Meanwhile, the number of Americans filing applications for unemployment benefits fell sharply, and consumer spending grew at twice the rate that was estimated.

That's because the things de-stabilizing the economy are DIRECTLY the result of TRUMP - specifically his trade wars and ill-conceived tweets. NEITHER of those things came from Obama. They are ALL TRUMP.

Likewise the massive new increase in the deficit. That's not Obama.

What consumer spending growth it that? The spending growth that dropped from 1.0% growth in March to .6% in April, to .5% in May to .3% in June (the latest numbers)?

Is that the consumer spending growth you mean?

I'm talking about July.

US retail sales rose solidly in July in a sign of consumer optimism

The Commerce Department says retail sales rose a healthy 0.7% last month, after a 0.3% gain in June. Online retailers, grocery stores, clothing retailers and electronics and appliance stores all reported strong gains.

Consumer spending, the primary driver of the U.S. economy, remains healthy Job growth is steady, the unemployment rate is near a 50-year low, and wages are rising modestly, which bolsters Americans’ spending power.
