Because private charity comes up woefully short at eradicating the problem. The fact is if you left all up to individuals donating poverty would become much worse in the United States.

And in case it hasn't been mentioned, some of the rabid hate and racism that has been erupting IS similar to the environment that spawned the Nazi movement.

I have mentioned before on here that I volunteer time and money at a homeless shelter. Irregardless there are studies that show if you cut all the programs the government provides to the poor poverty would become much worse because private charity is not as effective at eliminating poverty. As a middle class person I am guessing you have a lot to gain from a stable society increased poverty makes society less stable and business is not as good not to mention the increase in crime.

Well the start of the Nazi movement was largely a response to the rise of German communists, so perhaps. I don't think there are many card-carrying commies around but I do think that there is a push back against the left going on.

How has our poverty rate done over the years with the massive expenditures we’ve used to fight it?

Arguably extreme poverty has all but been eradicated in the United States getting food and clean water is incredibly easy. Elderly no longer have to live in destitution thanks to social security and the myriad of government programs that offer assistance has made an incredible dent. Are these programs perfect no they aren't but they are a heck of a lot better than simply providing private charity.

I’m perfectly aware that most liberals wouldn’t give to private charity if public assistance were ended, but we aren’t talking about just them.

Yes, I do take liberal Nationalist Socialist Democrat hatred seriously, so I'm armed to deal with them if it came to that.
