Trump musta decided its time to punish americans for purchasing cheaper solar panels.
Trump decided to level the playing field. Too bad the Democrat Snowflake Liberals hate everything he does. He could give each Democrat 1000 dollars out of his pocket and they would still hate him for it or complain about his loose business practice. Also bet neither Democrat would share it with an Illegal Alien, but they would be quick to share your dollars with them.
Americans make junk too. In fact, your fellow business owners have been whining for decades about being unable to find quality workers because Americans, as a whole, are too lazy and stupid. Which is why business owners have had to rely on international labor for all sorts of things since Ronald Reagan.
How is it possible people cannot understand when trump pronounces actions like this, it is to better his negotiating position. Trump will do nothing to squash jobs in America.
If anything, it is an attempt to get America on the ball and do its own manufacturing. instead of being dependent on an unfriendly competitor. You don't want America to be the center of excellence of solar panel development and production?
How many solar factories did Obama claim were going to produce jobs manufacturing solar panels. Obama blew 500 million dollars on just one failed solar company and in retrospect called it a good investment.
Obama was the kiss of death to the US solar industry as far as manufacturing.
Rather than threaten Trump could propose a plan to invest in and develop better alternative energies here. He won't do that because his backers are still on the coal bandwagon.
Well, I have a couple good friends who are likely to lose their jobs. In other areas, power costs will increase.
More likely, the Corporate dudes - who Trump is a mental midget compared to - will find a way around this by shipping through another country or letting some parts of it (glass and aluminum) be made here.
He's not really a bright bulb. His scope of planning.....well, for most of his life....involved the next time his dic got hardie and what he would do about it.
If we are lucky we will recover from Trump in a decade or two after he is gone. The problem is that we are so far behind already that staying the course means we are somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd world. I have a lot of friends who have already gotten better jobs or have been paid more for what Trump has done. So you want to "recover" from record high Stock Markets, lowest Unemployment in years, Rising economy, more Jobs being produced, Closing our Borders making us safer, defeating ISIS. So, we will gain 900 jobs, but as the price point of panels go up we will lose thousands of installation jobs we might otherwise have because of the increased price point. This is pretty basic economics. So your argument is both insulting to others, and completely wrong.
As for losing these jobs....I honestly do not care. We are getting close to full employment.
But resolving things like this should have been done a long time ago before it basically allowed China to dominate the market. Before it forced a ton of technology transfer to them. They've never acted like reasonable trade partners, nor will they. 30% doesn't even come close to fixing this, or resolving the underlying issues. Its closing the barn door after the animals have left. A tariff now is trivial, it would have mattered when they were using government support to eventually takeover a market.
Trump isnt serious about Chinas trade issues yet. But at least this gives me some hope he might be someday.
You can't go back in time, but you can go forward, and at least Trump is doing something. He has done more that the previous clowns in Office had done in their entire terms, Obama just gave away our money to Nations that Hate us. He was more intent on making America a "Socialist United States of America" and erasing the Borders in North America in hopes of making it a North American Union, like the nitwits in Europe, to be ruled by Democrats forever by importing a voter base of Illegal Aliens and fixing all Departments of the Government to make Elections a farce and for show only. We are now discovering that. At least Trump is working for America and not against it.

The reason this happened is because China uses central moneys and controls much more freely in assisting their preferred industries.
So while you deride Obama for this kiss of death, in fact the conservative side of 'we the people' don't want our government so engaged.
Conservatives won't let us compete with China on solar.
So in the end we can still have the industry and we can still be the world leader in solar tech. But we are relatively strapped in doing so as compared to China. And our solar related costs will necessarily have to rise.
You seriously didn't know they did that? China has been buying stuff from us and reverse engineering it for Years and years. They take all the specs,make cheap copies, and flood the markets here with them, with no penalties for Copyright or Patent infringement. Good for Trump. Make America strong and level the playing field.
Actually if it were done honestly through licensing it would be alright. But they not only do what you said, they also outright STEAL it by engaging in corporate espionage, as well as, much more troubling, espionage against our government and military research agencies. That's where these offenses cross from the realm of the common thief into something far more sinister.
Ask yourself why nearly all spies we catch stealing our stuff are Chinese? Ask yourself why so many of our agencies that are the designers and stewards of highly classified technology would even hire Chinese nationals in technical and scientific positions.
This didn't use to be a thing. NOFORN was strictly observed. Chinese especially were scrutinized, being from a Communist regime.
I don't know what happened, but I assure you that liberals (ie America Haters) were behind this disastrous change in policy. Just like they have been behind all other inane decisions that compromise our national security or erode the fabric of our nation.
Coddling our enemies, whether its through lopsided trade agreements like the one we have with the PRC, or whether through simply letting their people in here, is going to hurt our fellow citizens. That is inevitable.
