I feel that the father who lunged at Nassar in the courtroom should have been penalized in some way, perhaps in the form of a fine. The reason that he felt empowered to do what he did in the first place is because criminal courts, since the emergence of the victim's rights movement decades ago have become more impassioned victim service centers than courtrooms.

Even though this nasty doctor did disgusting things that are inexcusable, judges should be expected to conduct themselves and courtroom proceedings with reason and decorum. This man pleaded guilty in a plea deal that would have imposed a sentence of 25-40. -Then he writes a letter (that just shows how mentally disordered he is) that angered the judge, who in turn, in what looks to me like a paroxysmal fit, retreated from the plea deal and imposed another 20 years, and as of today it stands at 40-125. The snarling judge proclaimed days ago in the courtroom that she just gave him a death sentence. Of course, few people with see anything wrong with her behavior. Maybe she was abused...we have a female sociopathic judge in the county where I live that does stuff like this.

Why does this society condone this kind of unhinged behavior from judges? I do not believe that victim impact statements are proper. The law likes to put on false pretenses of keeping the forum of the court free from inflammatory elements, yet allows these statements and what I deem to be reckless unprofessional behaviors from judges. The law should examine the evidence and render the most just verdict and punishment that is called for by the findings of fact. These impact statements only serve to turn courtrooms into medieval lynching fests.

I bet you have a serious problem with this.
The courts did nothing to the dad. He saved the government millions.

I agree, the judge letting her emotions show probably wont be a good thing in this case ultimately (appeals wise).

Whats strange to me, people almost consider these crimes worse than murder, Im not sure how it came to be this way.

It IS possible that:

Nassar got what he deserved
AND
The judge is unhinged. Her pontificating is grating. I did not know about backing out of a plea deal ex post facto

oh gee, a human being letting their emotions show, what a concept. the judge is a human being, not an android or a vulcan. and humans have a tendency to let their emotions out especially in cases like this one. i doubt that even you could restrain your emotions if you had just listened to the statements of 115 witnesses telling what an evil bastard this doctor was.

i dont blame the judge, but she did show some great restraint in holding back as much as she did. personally i would have been wanting to leave the bench and pummel the doctor with one of my louisville sluggers for about twenty minutes.

He will die in jail. Inmates don't take to well to child abusers. It is the reason they are now in jail today.

I do agree that the judge in the case has said too much with her personal input and feelings on the case.
Yes, I do feel that the judge went a bit above and beyond with her personal feelings.

While I agree this judge has not been exactly professional in conduct, I understand where she's coming from and can let it pass. We've seen male judges in the past blame female victims for being the victim of sexual assault, or give ludicrous slaps on the wrist as 'punishment.'

Empowered? More like temporary insanity, he lost it and just snapped for a second. I am a father of two girls and I can certainly sympathize with the man but can't imagine how me must feel. I applaud the judge for taking no actions against him.

Indeed no action should have happened against the Father. Many years ago there was a case (I believe it was in GA or AL) where the Father of a boy sexually abused by his Karate instructor blew the perps head off with a 357 in the courthouse. He was being led by two deputies, and the Father was at a phone booth in the hall. When they led him past he spun around, came up behind them, put the gun right to the back of the creeps head and BOOM.

No charges were filed and the Father was set free. Caused a flap, but being a parent myself I fully understand the Fathers actions. And when someone is consumed with that sort of rage, where your child has been irreparably hurt by a two legged , predatory varmint....well.

That sort of rage knows no boundaries. It takes a special sort of person to keep it totally under control. More often than not it wins and refuses to be controlled. Especially when the object of that rage is mere feet away with a smug expression on its face.

The judge has been overly dramatic, she should be less emotional and more objective. I don't blame the father for his reaction but this doctor is getting he deserves. This has been beaten to death at this point and will not change anything, will there be a 4th sentencing to add another 200 years, time to move on.
