I don't like weaponizing space any more than any of you do. But given history and human nature, I think it's inevitable. The best we can hope for is that we can defend our space infrastructure, and maybe find a way to sweep up space junk after it happens.
This planet isn't going to last long enough for anybody to weaponize outer space.

Space is already being weaponized. The Earth should last at least another 7.5 billion years.

If it's really "nothing new" then it's nothing to get worked up about either.

It will cost more to set up a whole new program.

Being retired Army, I say no to a new branch call "Space Force." I can see where this is coming from and getting ahead of the curve isn't a bad ideal, but "I" don't think its time for this... Say in a fifty to hundred years or so from now and when man starts to colonize the moon and/or Mars... OK, a Space Force may be needed to protect U.S. Interest from the Chinese, Russian or a truly "United" European Union.

IMHO, until this happens, that mission should fall within the U.S. Air Force areas of responsibility.

To make it easier on the USAF, they should transfer all tactical ground support combat aircraft over to the Army while maintaining the strategic bomber/fighter, airlift and missile commands with this new area of responsibility of immedeate space control to protect our satellites and attack an enemy nation(s) satellites in times of war... IMHO.

I'm confused, We can't afford to build a wall around the US.

We cannot afford to have Universal Healthcare or something like it.

We cannot afford to take care of our veterans

We cannot afford to fix our infrastructure

Where's the money coming from to have control over Outer Space?!

I don't argue about Trump online or at the minimal with my republican friends , But this news has me baffled.

typical liberals that have no understanding of the military. we already have a space force, it is just under the auspices of the air force. all trump wants to do is separate that into its own branch of the military.

Actually it was Harry Reid who oversaw this program and and made sure Bigelow Aerospace got a big chunk of the $22 million, they used the money to modify buildings in order to store and research recovered metals and other materials from past UAPs.

It was 2 other democratic senators that proposed more money after they read the AATIP report, that went into detail about the R&D done on these extraterrestrial materials, one researcher stated they operate almost by magic, no wiring or mechanical linkage, etc, and ultimately about how the military would not be able to defend against some of this technology.

Thats pretty huge folks, much more of a threat than some of the stuff you all seem to be worried about, some are even joking about this? WTF? I dont think its much of a laughing matter that the US military would be unable to defend the nation against this foe!!! When was the last time you heard the US military would be unable to defend against some threat?!!! I dont think Ive ever heard that (except for this).

And we're talking about the Space Force again. It's a diversion, folks.
