You apparently MISSED the fact that the 50% increase in the number of guns owned by Americans HAS NOT resulted in a commensurate increase in gun homicide and nonfatal violent gun crime rates. In fact, the exact opposite is true... the rate of gun homicides has DECREASED by 50% and the rate of nonfatal violent gun crimes has DECREASED by 76%.

Americans owning more guns DOES NOT result in higher gun crime rates.

There is absolutely NO denying that fact.

LOL! Now even when replying to Finn_Jarber, all he can do is repeat his same irrelevant statistic. Pretty sad.

What's sad is your complete inability to accept a verified truth.

Americans owning more guns DOES NOT result in higher gun crime rates.

There is absolutely NO denying that fact.

People want to own guns, end of story. And they will continue to own guns, and gun control will always be a losing issue for the left.

I'd be really really careful with polls around this topic.

A number of people do not want to share the information that they have a gun.

Others may not want people, in the aftermath of a high-profile shooting, tarring and feathering them for being an "evil gun owner" and the mob is certainly howling up a storm.

Please note that many of these polls are doing so during the height of media attention after a tragedy.

Kinda like asking the public if we need more controls on ship safety a week after the titanic sank.

The OP cited a poll, two questions of which were about guns. If the OP is citing a poll containing questions about guns, then I can cite a poll with questions about guns.

Poll Results...

March of 2018:

Statement A/does more to increase safety: 58%
Statement B/does more to reduce safety: 38%

October of 1999:

Statement A/does more to increase safety: 41%
Statement B/does more to reduce safety: 52%

The clearest conclusion to draw from this poll: The leftists' strident years of trying to scare people into letting them restrict and ban guns, have flatly failed.

Keep up the good work, lefties! May you have more such success into the future!

OP: Correlation is not Causation.

First, show proof that the increase in guns causes the decrease in crime. You can't because there is no evidence of causation. You may as well say that since cell phone ownership has increased in that time period, cell phones prevent crime.

Second, logic calls into question the notion of "more guns = less gun crime." You are assuming - without any evidence whatsoever - that the increase in gun ownership has been sufficient to deter criminals, and nothing else is causing the reduced gun crime. This means you are overlooking:
  • Improved crime fighting techniques to reduce crime in general
  • The affects of better gun law enforcement against thugs with guns
Finally, who actually owns the guns in question? Because one guy buying 20 extra guns (so he can "kill the government!" someday) does not make a town any safer, and it would be dangerous folly to pretend that "the real reason the town's crime rate is lower this year is because 20 more guns are owned by the people." Yeah, by one guy... great.

In short, you have no evidence to support your claim that increased gun ownership has reduced crime.
