And politicians stripped our rights to do it. The second amendment is just words on paper, and that makes for a weak shield. All it takes is (yet another) reinterpretation of it by the Supreme Court.

It was gun free on 9/11. That didn't stop terrorists from taking over three airliners, and killing more than 3,000 people. Now there are Air Marshalls, with GUNS, and some Pilots with GUNS.

Of what use is registration? You already "register" your firearm today when you buy it. What does "tight" even mean?

We've tried this idea for 30 years. It doesn't work. Turning our schools into hunting preserves for psychopaths was a bad idea then, and it's a bad idea now.

If we change the laws across the board to shall issue permits, meaning that anyone who applies and passes a background check is issued a permit, this one has possibilities.

Mental illness how? Who defines what mental illness is the cut off point? And why is someone who has served the sentence for their crime and is supposedly a productive member of society not allowed to exercise their rights? If you can't trust them with a firearm, they should stay in prison.

Piut more thought into it.
Mental illness as in schizophrenia, bi-polar, manic-depressive, etc.

Again, I don't want to get shot by some schizo because their imaginary friend told them to do it!

The law has already been on the book for 50 years now.

That's a trained professional with a gun. I think when we are discussing gun free zones, it goes without saying that people mean "not a private citizen carrying a gun."

The law that stipulates gun free zones even says that an exception is a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity.

Let's not play silly semantics.

Don't bother. The poster you responded to has been told that dozens of times and even shown a 4473 more than once. Nothing will convince him that he's wrong.

New York City and Its Gun Laws: How Strict Are They? | Guns of New York

But that is nothing compared to D.C, which has the strictest gun control laws on the books, and somehow even less crime than NYC If that is possible. DC Could be described as a crime free zone all thanks to the gun control laws.

So Gun control laws DO work....since the signing of the SAFE act in 2013, New York City has not had a single homicide, drug use is all but gone, and even the guys who hand out parking tickets are bored. All because of restrictive gun laws. Washington DC Is consistently rated as the "Safest city in the world" and one of the few places where you can leave your hotel and house unlocked at night without fear of crime.

Now compare that to a place with very lax gun laws, like , say, KANSAS where gun control laws are very lax, anyone over 21 pretty much can buy and carry a handgun, and you get this as a result

Every day,. we hear story after story about bleeding Kansas, about the gangs, the crime, the shooting rampages, which lead to bombings, drug use, parking crimes, makes me think Kansas must be hell on earth.
Factoid: In the time you read this post, 5 people in Kansas died from gun related violence.

So clearly, if we start with the laws I mentioned, we should need nothing else.

Also, get over yourselves. Some of you are way too serious, not to mention lazy and rude. get a life people. This forum is supposed to be fun. Stop taking everything so seriously.
We've been had.
