The omnibus spending bill gave more than $700 billion for military expenditures. Why not use a small fraction of that (less than 3.5%) to get the Wall built by the military?

It sounds like an easy way forward to me.

It would be OK with me. I do not believe a wall is the answer and it's a huge waste of money, but lets bring all the troops home and waste all the money we are wasting elsewhere, here.

Why not bring all the troops all home and let them patrol the border?

That sounds like a win-win to me.

For those who are still dreaming about that border wall, remember, the majority of those in this country without the appropriate paperwork are people who overstayed visas.

Why not focus our efforts on tracking down and rounding up those folks? They are far more likely to be, and have been, terrorists.

IIRC, most, if not all, of the 9/11 terrorists were here on expired visas.

Do you mean with military funds or military labor?

Using military labor is using military funds.

Spending in the Omnibus is set out by Congress. President cannot reallocate between funds. No wall, baby, no wall. He conned his supporters for their vote. I don't understand why they don't see the con now that he signed the Omnibus. Blind? Stupid? Embarrassed?? No where else to go??

Because the bill forbids building any wall among a dozen other reasons. The one area where wall building might have begun soon is the wildlife refuge where the bill now says it can't. Anywhere else would take months to years of engineering, logistics, utility work, and land acquisition. Not only that, but the bill says the only construction that can be done has to be the same as what has been done - so forget the monoliths in San Diego. Some new bollard fencing will be done (the bollard fencing has worked well). Trump's hands are tied. The beautiful wall is dead for now and probably forever.

Yup.

Also, the military has its own plans for that money, which they think are more important to national defense than building a wall to keep poor Mexicans on their reservation.
