Thing is, most people in liberal areas are pretty parochial and have never spent time in more advanced parts of the country. They think liberalism, crushing taxes, high unemployment, high crime and homelessness are actually normal.

So take the chance, show a bit of a sense of adventure and enjoy a new, free world.
Doubtful.

I grew up in New York, and moved to Phoenix after high school to get out of the cold (had nothing to do with politics or taxes etc); and I have to admit that most of this state is whacked out of their heads when it comes to politics. We are finally getting some sense here, especially with Joe 'Dur Fuhrer' Arpaio finally being voted out of office after a 24 year reign of terror as Maricopa County Sheriff. I will NEVER understand people who think he was a good or even great sheriff as long as I live. I will eventually be moving to California as their is more work in my field with better wages, summers aren't as hot as here, and won't have to deal with the far right anymore

No one is stuck anywhere. If one does the correct things to allow them to thrive anywhere, they can pick where they wish to live.

I've lived in a number of places. In MA. , where I currently reside, my cul-de-sac is probably 50/50 GOP and Dem (or independent)...there is absolutely NO "looking down" at a person based on their views of political party. Obviously we have elected a bunch of GOP Govs like now and Romney.

BUT, in some of the "lesser educated" red areas, it's not like this. There is a vast "class divide". I saw this in the Hilton Head area of SC where everyone assumed you were rich (if white) and obviously you loved money so you were a Republican. It was somewhat humorous being inducted into their clubs at the (clay) tennis courts....in their minds there was no way each human could have a different way of thinking.

This is to say nothing of the heat and humidity which make many Red States difficult in terms of comfort....then there is often a lack of healthy food (changing these days)....

Things are changing. We maintain a small cottage in Sarasota, FL - a very "pro-Trump" city, but if you look at the entire Metro area around us it's purple. Also, just 8 years ago we had friends who moved to Sarasota and they have to "play" being not liberals. They simply would have been shunned at the sports venues (they play numerous sports, etc.).....BUT, this has changed in the years since. Now you can unabashedly be liberal and even call your Republican friends out when they make crude or nasty remarks.

So it's not red states per se but more some of the other issues around them - the heat and humidity, the assumption you are totally on one side or the other, the lack of services and sometimes culture or good health care, etc.

Iowa, BTW, is no paradise. It is illegal immigrant central (turns out Republican businessmen like cheap labor...same with multi-national corporations and the meat packing industry)....

Iowa is where the book "methland" was centered...generations of ruined families. I wouldn't be surprised if many have turned to opiates now.

But if I wanted to raise soybeans I'd definitely consider it.

I agree - somewhat - and we have.

But even the best of us (financially, job flexibility, etc.) have families...and families come with obligations. Not until death do those obligations go away (yours or theirs)....

The Mobility of Americans has been both good and bad. Just a generation ago we had 75% of our family in the general Philadelphia area....now it's probably 10%.

Ideal for many people is finding a decent place with a good airport within an hours drive - then, as they age, they can tell their children and grandchildren to come visit (or they can fly themselves while still healthy)...

Is the skunk already in Iowa and considering a move to California, or? Would that be a good thing or a bad thing? Very confused right now!

So, who's joining me in my move to Iowa?

Already happened. California liberals are the reason Nevada and Colorado are becoming leftist bastions. Arizona and Texas are at risk of being next. Virginia has now turned blue.

The mindset of a loser! If we can’t win in a Legal Way we have to move to another place to gain votes...wow

On top of that the State they leave will become red and where liberals go they will find out how great and much better it is and most likely they will switch and realize how bad it was to be a liberal. Making them prior losers and new winners!

It is perfectly legal to move to another state.
