I keep saying it because it's worth repeating... but it's amazing to watch the left suddenly decry the trade protectionist policies they'd been vigorously advocating at least since NAFTA was proposed, simply because someone they hate is implementing them.

Producers have been screwed by unfair trade for several decades, at least. Does America still care about it's producers? I would certainly hope so. In the event of a real war, producers would be immensely valuable. Consumers would be all but worthless. Time to restore balance in America and consider the shape we are leaving this country in for the next generation.

it isn't the producers who pay the tax, its the consumers on both sides being taxed by their respective governments. So if one country punishes its people with a tax on certain US made products, there is no need to punish ours. If you want to support US producers in your household feel free to do so, but forcing everyone else to do so just sounds like good ole socialism.
And whats a "real war"? You do realize the US is going on 17 years of endless war and we have enough weaponry to destroy the planet several times over?

Dont worry buying products made in Canada or China or Mexico arent going to pose a security risk lol

Can you elaborate how making american consumers poorer, giving them fewer choices and eliminating jobs will put the country in better shape for future generations?

Trump is an economic illiterate. Is it any wonder that the idiot had to declare corporate bankruptcy six times!

And it is worth repeating that it's amazing to watch the right abandon the free trade principles that have been a core value of conservatism for decades because Trump is a populist leftist on the issue. It's partisanship to be sure. But it is also undeniable that tariffs are a tax and a burden on consumers and a negative for the economy. It won't be long before we see a downturn and rising unemployment if this boils over into a trade war.
