Suppose, in an effort to stop shootings, guns were completely banned, and even that radical step failed. What would the government try to do next? Would they e.g. propose putting a sedative in the food/water supply?

Most likely they would try and go door to door and confiscate the firearms. This is not only a bad idea, but I also guarantee it will end in allot ofblood shed. With deaths on both sides of the spectrum.
if guns were completely banned, then congress had best fifure a way to prevent people from putting various chemicals together to create explosives. and that means banning chemicals that we use daily in a huge variety of ways.

HA, they would not 'propose' anything, they would just go ahead and do what they feel is most effective.
