Farmers are caught in between rapidly changing/unpredictable economics, turbulence in global trade, enormous debt and a communist government that admits it is targeting them. Why should we allow our producers to be crushed?

Again...welcome to the conservative movement.

Maybe you’re “liberal” on the GAGG issues (god, abortion, guns, gays), but on economic issues you are a conservative. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but it is interesting to see how modern-day Democrats are basically just Republicans who happen to be liberal on social issues.

I can see why Bernie Sanders had such a strong showing (and why the establishment made sure that he didn’t get on the ballot). On economic issues, Trump’s rhetoric was actually to the Left of Hillary’s. It was a total con-job, of course. Trump is an elite. But he knew what his followers wanted to hear.

Tariffs, Bail outs, bribes is Capitalism. Is this not what we were all taught?

Our economic system is described as "mixed economy", not capitalism. We have options and tools available to combat oppressive communist regimes who want to do harm to people trying to make an honest living in America.

No there's not. Except Trump is screwing them over with his tariffs. And since many (not all of course) voted for him, they should take their lumps.

I sat quietly as banks and auto companies were bailed out for making bad decisions. Why should people who make the right decisions not receive some form of limited help when needed? It is never a bad decision to commit to make an honest living. When the reward does not justify the effort, we lose producers. This is never a good thing. I would prefer a country full of ambitious, hard working producers who are well cared for and appreciated. It worked that way once and it can work that way again.

Where things got out of wack is when American farmers were sucked into the promise of globalism. All over the world, the majority is learning that the promises of globalism have not materialized, and they won't. The experiment is over.

A mixed economy includes aspects of Socialism which gets demonized in any other post. Just so we are clear, we do NOT have a Capitalist/free market economy.

Working at any low paying job is an honest living but when people want a rise in the minimum wage, that is somehow all of a sudden bad and those people need to quit making bad decisions and stop working at lower paying jobs.

Maybe all the farmers should go back to school and get a degree in Engineering?

Our economy can only supply/support so many high paying engineering jobs and engineers. We need a diverse range of professionals to support our diverse economy, and that has to include farmers. We must, as a nation, strive for independence and self sustainability. Without an ample supply of farmers with productive land, that would be all but impossible. I would hate to imagine an America where we lack the capacity to feed our own population, if push came to shove.

It's not jobs we're talking about.
