Who would they even call as a defense witness?

They look a little creepy...with the big pores where the feathers are plucked out...

That I do not know. Presumably people who could help present the whole picture. Of course, anyone who knows Manafort's dealings is likely to be shady as all out, and it can really crimp the defense's style if their witnesses start taking the Fifth all over the place. Or, in the words of Ken White: "If you're unlucky they get up there, give you some marginal testimony, and then the AUSA gets up and joyrides them all over your case for an hour. Skeevy people do badly on cross."

I was thinking Yanukovych or one of the Russian Oligarchs as character witnesses, maybe his own family.

His daughters apparently hate him now that they realize how all their wealth came from criminal activity
Or maybe because of the alleged sex escapades involving his wife
Or maybe because one of them is now divorced from guy who worked w/Manafor and now is facing similar charges...

Story on Manafort going sock less--
Only white socks issues by prison
I don't know why he can't wear personal socks
He certainly isn't wearing an orange jump suit to court
