Totally Agree - I avoid as many of these companies as possible and would urge others to do the same.

I also would like to know why anyone cannot live on a NET income of $2,000 a month unless they live in a VERY high COL place like San Francisco. Five years ago in Denver, it was possible for someone to live on a net income of $800 a month if he had a roommate (to split the rent and utilities) and rode a bike or took the bus -- although there was absolutely no room for any non-essentials whatsoever. (I know this for a fact.)

However, there is a book I highly recommend for anyone who would like to know more about some of the 'houseless' poor who work at places like Amazon, and the book focuses on women over 50. Although it is true that many of their misfortunes were caused by their own poor choices, I still feel a great deal of sympathy for some of the women profiled.

The problem with this case in particular is that the woman was on disability and isn't always on the Amazon payroll and is off and on. This I think is the issue here and not with Amazon employees in general. I'm sure besides inflated rent or competitive markets, that you could live on $2,000 a month. She hasn't had a steady $2,000 a month though.

It’s interesting how the same people who rail against minimum wage increases become friends of the worker based on the company’s perceived political leanings.

A number of successful people I know lived in pickup truck rear (small) campers in the parking lot of their budding appliance factory. Of course, they were healthy and young.

Now their plant is 500,000 sq. ft.

Anecdotes like the OP are not really political because you can find an example of anything anywhere. If we want to discuss better socialism in the USA, we could have that conversation. There are MILLIONS falling through the cracks and it's certainly not the fault of Amazon (in specific).

I don't disagree but the problem is it is hard to avoid these places with the pauper wages like we see today. We are taught to stretch every dollar and squeeze every penny, not by being cheap but rather out of survival. Just yesterday I saw a 20 oz bottle of Coke Zero Sugar a week ago in a Fry's Marketplace it cost $1.79, just yesterday I find it in the same Fry's for $1.99 out of the blue. I didn't get it.

Yeah, you noticed that too. The Trump cult is a mind bender. I'm sure if Trump ran it, he would run it the same way and there would be no issue. Also if Bezos didn't own WaPo...

That's a hilarious (and ironic) comment when we know that Trump won't show his tax returns because of the free ride he has gotten for decades....

AND his "tax cut" included VAST gifts for anyone who buys or owns real estate (except homeowners)...

I mean - talk about hypocritical. Please list out the free ride you are talking about???

Amazon collects sales tax.
Amazon workers pay ALL taxes. Amazon as an employer pays all taxes due.
Amazon pays vast amounts of property tax.
Amazon shareholder pay capital gains and income taxes (vast amounts given the stock rise).

The list would span pages - yet you think a talking point repeated from your King means something? Sorry, it doesn't.

Why did Trump cut Amazons corporate taxes BIG TIME? Why did he give them vastly more tax breaks for their Real Estate? Why did he go this from Debt and Deficit?

Trump is just jealous - and every time he attacks Amazon they are worth more. If Trump had invested in even the conservative Warren Buffet he'd be worth 180 Billion today - so he LOST 177 Billion. If he invested in Amazon he'd have made even more....much quicker.

Instead he made almost nothing....and ripped a lot of people and taxpayers off to do it. People like that...I don't listen to.

Nice to see her own GoFundMe account halfway to its goal.

More reasons for Amazon to push for 100% automation. Which I am sure is not far off. I am sure Bezos looked at the video and then turned to his tech team and asked, "How much longer?"

All I can say is that if you are a 49 year old and the best work option for you was to work an entry level job at Amazon you have made a whole series of bad choices for the past 30 plus years. And at 49 you are going to get injured much easier than at 19. Just look at professional athletes and by their mid 30's how injury prone they become.

I like my prime account. I am not that concerned who picks the order, a 49 year old loser or a non complaining robot.

Likely you used more gas and depreciation (costs - 40+ cents a mile) to even see that......

I mean - I know where to squeeze and where it doesn't matter much. Then again, if I were working for $10 an hour things would be very different. In that case I'd have to see what free stuff and programs were available to me.
