What does that make me? Liberal or conservative?
You're illustrating quite well the insanity that is the two-party system.

Of course it insane to think that all political beliefs could be binned into only two groups. Political beliefs are a spectrum as it is - and then when you attempt to think of all of the possible belief combinations, the amount of political variation it's nearly limitless.

Just believe what you want, and ignore labels. Vote for whatever politician aligns most with your beliefs. Don't vote for the party, vote for yourself and for the country.

This is from a US senator about a bill he voted for

tightened border security; created a tough but fair path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants already living in the United States; deployed a quick and effective employment verification system for businesses to prevent identity theft and prevent future illegal hires; and pioneered an improved process to admit foreign workers that does not harm employment opportunities for American workers.

https://www.murphy.senate.gov/issues/immigration

He's a Democrat from Connecticut. This illustrates how most Democrats feel. We'll give in and let the illegals who are already established here a break but we want e-verify to keep new illegals from being hired and to prevent identity theft. We want tighter border control but not a wall.

We want to admit some LEGAL immigrants as long as it doesn't harm Americans.

We want national health insurance --and it doesn't end if you lose your job or become self employed.

Probably a lot of conservatives feel just about the same because most Americans are somewhere in the middle.

You just pick the party that is closest to your beliefs and work with them to get closer to what you believe.

I think the insanity of multiple parties representing every belief under the sun is worse. Look at Italy where they have to form coalitions between all those whacky parties which creates even more chaos. Our system is far from perfect, or even good, but it certainly is better than the free for all of a dozen, or more parties.

I’m definitely more Republican than Democrat on illegal immigration, [b]but I’m skeptical that a wall is going to fix the problem.[b] Wasn’t it General Patton in WW2 who said that “fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of mankind?” How hard is it to smuggle humans over or under a wall?
Do you want to know how effective walls are?
Ask the Cubans & Haitians who got to Florida on rafts!

Yet you think our political binary system is good?
McDonalds even gives us more choices with what sauces we want with our Chicken McNuggets!

I hardly call that breaking in or compromising when giving amnesty to illegals has been the goal of Democrats for the last 40 years at least and just saying tightened border security means nothing.
Try and find a moderate Democrat politician in California that doesn't love catering to illegals and trying to give them whatever they want including some wanting to give them the right to vote and free healthcare. Moderate? Hardly.

Did you forget Ronald Reagan who was a Californian" with a complicit GOP Congress in the 1980's?

Who truly gave 'amnesty" to 3 Million "illegals" when he was President?

From what I can tell, the more well to do and polished conservatives still shop at Whole Foods.
