If they back down, they will not only look weak and ineffective. They will lose a lot of credibility.

I hope there is a reckoning - god knows the Saudis deserve it.

It is likely that someone is going to come up with some plausible story as to how this happened and then possibly they will be thrown under the bus. The King will deny any knowledge and Trump will accept his explanation and everyone will wait for things to return to normal. In the meantime a US resident will have been killed by a foreign government with only minor repercussions and the Kingdom will continue to be one of the most repressive Governments in the world.

It's the same crowd (Trumpies) who would give Trump a "mulligan" for shooting a nun in the middle of 52nd St. No surprise.

If they haven't lost their credibility by now in some eyes they never will. It doesn't matter during general elections anyway The majority of people are entrenched in their parties. The only time something like this has any affect is during primaries.

It seems as if the anti-Trump people won't be happy until we are involved in yet another war in the Middle East.

It seems Trump can't stand up to a murderous regime. Really. The Saudis need to be held accountable to what happened to this poor man. Unfortunately, that most likely will not happen.

Saudis haven't given us much reason to trust them but we shouldn't accept everything from Turkish sources at face value, either.

reasons to doubt the report:

Saudi-Turkey rivalry
Turkey has atrocious press freedom record
They jail journos in the 1000s. Yet now Erdogan state-media's word is gold?
100% if this stuff is sourced to Turkish media, citing unreleased recordings.

who benefits if the U.S. cut ties with Saudi Arabia or boycott their economy?

I can't even stomach the details, but that Trump still touts "if" the evidence exists is appalling. The only reason he is even entertaining the thought now is because of all the public outcry. To someone as amoral as Trump, something like the torture and murder of this man means nothing.

Invalid straw man, no one has suggested war is the appropriate response.

and do what exactly? this is NOT our problem and I don't trust Turkey's sources, they have a lot to gain here. So you want Trump to do what exactly because of 1 person that is not even an American?

You want to cut ties with Saudi on the allegations of Turkey (which they hate Saudi) and push the Saudis into the Russian's and Chineses arms so you can blame Trump for that also?
