Does all this appeal to his base? Keep out anyone who is not a white male like me?

It's time to get over it. Come to the border, file the paperwork, and let our well developed system process people just like we have for generations. Not everyone is trying to "storm the southern border" as Donald would have his followers believe. Most are ordinary people trying to escape autocrats who would have them killed for their democratic beliefs.
Why do you seem to think it's a bad thing to want to protect our borders from being "ILLEGALLY" crossed?

People asking for asylum are vetted. People that are not asking for asylum are dealt with as they are, law breakers. Everyone now arrested when crossing the border illegally since they are breaking the lsw, they are trespassing into the country unknown unvetted without permission. People not asylum seekers are taken to court the judge either charges them and finds them guilty and deported or the judge charges them and then tells them to come back at a later date to find out how they stand (Obama's old way of ignoring the law aka catch and release). Most of those people don't qualify as asylum seekers so they choose to break the law anyway and get arrested.

Exactly. Why does anyone oppose this?

You try that at JFK. They'll send you back so fast you won't even feel it. Nobody has to "deal" with them. There's something about the southern border.

Or we could be more civil and simply jail all who hire an illegal. Simple huh. But we also jail all who fail to hire a Hispanic citizen who applies and is not hired for fear he/she is illegal.

In no time at all it would become impossible to tell who was actually running the business.
Overboard much?

Rework the e-verify system to one that works better than the current one and make it nationwide and mandatory. It won't be 100% effective, by a long shot, but it would be better than the way it is now.
Rework the Constitution regarding birthright citizenship so that people cannot just walk across the border to drop a baby and suddenly that baby is a citizen.
Rework the laws on social services so that the [illegals] families of a birthright citizen baby/child cannot receive/benefit from welfare, food stamps, etc.
Create stricter laws for ID theft/use of stolen identities, with extremely harsh penalties.
Build the wall, to keep people from just waltzing over the border anytime they feel like it.
and so on.......

Opposing protecting our borders doesn't make any sense to me. All I can think to make some kind of sense of it is liberal politicians and the media convince them to oppose it and they do as they are told. I wonder if they ever asked themselves about the consequences. If they're unhappy now about the rich, they support the very thing that will make the rich, richer.

The dems have been saying for 2 yrs that we dont need a wall, and can use people and technology to secure the border instead, and they don't like deploying the military to foreign countries, so they should be happy if we use the military to secure the border.

80 percent of "the ones before them" fail to show up for their court hearings after they are processed.

Trump looks like he is going to stop this march in it's tracks - at least we have one guy not afraid to do it. That's why we elected a non-politician in the first place!

Plenty of ways to stop them
1. Pull any and all funding to their home country govt. (oh yeah - Trump already mentioned this)
2. Arrest them at the border
3. Put them on the next plane, train, bus, or Uber back to Honduras

They will think twice about trying to invade us again.
