Not just because he is a Republican, but I honestly think he is an idiot. He is well beyond his expiration date and needs to go. How he keeps getting re elected is beyond me. Kentucky must be the dumbest State in the Union.

There is nothing ever positive about the guy, his go to answer is "NO" !

Yesterday on CNN I listened to some Republican spokesman talk, over and over, about how the Democrats were off 'on vacation', and so they were thwarting anything being done to get the government back open.

I was frustrated with the interviewer, for he utterly failed to note 1) the Republicans had also left town, including Mitch McConnell; and 2) if the Republicans were actually in town, and the House and Senate were in session (which they weren't) then all the Republicans would have to do is establish a quorum and they could pass a funding bill with money for a wall.

For those of you in Rio Linda, for the Senate, a quorum must have 51 Senators present:

For the House: 218 members:

Oddly, if only Republicans showed up, they would have a quorum.

McConnell is a savvy politician, he knows when to take a stand. Ask Merritt Garland.

Congress is not personally affected during Shutdowns. They still receive pay, and the fact that this one happened right in the middle of the biggest holiday season, means that many on both sides were going to be away. So they have no motivation to do anything until the holidays are over. If Congress also didn't receive pay during Shutdowns, you can best believe nobody would have left until a deal was reached. In fact, Congress would not let shutdowns happen if they didn't receive pay during them.

Good for them.

McConnell had a deal with trump that all of Congress supported. Then trump turned on his teevee and heard Ann Coulter and his Fox Friends making fun of him, so he reneged thinking it would make him look tough. Now he's miserable, everyone around him is miserable, and Melanie high-tailed it back to Palm Beach right after the 20 minutes they spent with the troops in Iraq. Barron has been in Florida the whole time, didn't even spend Xmas with his dad.

BTW, aren't Ryan and McConnell still the congressional leaders? What are they accomplishing?

They are taking their vacations, too. Apparently, only the Republicans are allowed to leave Washington during the Christmas break. The Democrats are expected to stay and wait in case the GOP decides to do something.

They're definitely overwhelmingly Democrats. Democrats outnumber Republicans on Food Stamps and other means-tested public assistance programs by a ratio of more than 2 to 1. Read about it here:

Are Welfare Recipients Mostly Democrats? Or Republicans?

Gives the percentages of recipients by political party affiliation for each program. Data Sources listed in the article: The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (syracuse.edu) and NPR

Didn't Nancy say "Let them Eat Cake"?
LOL. So you think it’s only Democrats that take Food Stamps. Hilarious.
