Who cares, just build the stupid wall and be done with all this. It's not unreasonable to have a wall on the Mexican border. $5.7B is not a ridiculous amount. The annual military budget is $686.1B
At this point building the wall is a no win situation for democrats because they know it'll do exactly what Border Patrol and Trump has been saying for years, it'll help prevent illegal immigration. It won't stop 100% of people from crossing illegally and it won't stop people from flying in and overstaying VISAs but it will work and that alone scares democrats to death. Democrats can't risk being that wrong, they're too invested in preventing the wall from being built to just let it happen.

That military budget is way too much. The annual education budget could and should be higher.
I want to gauge this whole "murders emergency" issue.
If you have 5 people murdered every day by illegal immigrants and 2000 by regular citizens, it seems like maybe we ought to worry about the 2k first.
Not sure about your numbers, but I like the thinking...
I'm also not sure these issues should be considered in either/or fashion, since we should do what we can to mitigate murder either way, but what I applaud is the analysis that puts some focus on where we get the best bang for the buck either way.
Aside from the amount of cost (that most of us can't consider in any relative way) and aside from the overall effectiveness of Trump's big wall (that most of us can't know in with any certainty), an even bigger concern is the amount of America's attention, effort and resources are being diverted by Trump toward this wall and away from our other bigger more important issues that truly represent what is most important to most Americans.
This is something like three mechanics in a car and Trump at the wheel, broke down on the side of the road with a blown engine, a cracked windshield, and all they do is waste time arguing about how to fix the cracked windshield...
Well, I guess there is a new motto according to his latest 2 tweets:
"BUILD A WALL & CRIME WILL FALL! This is the new theme, for two years until the Wall is finished (under construction now), of the Republican Party. Use it and pray!"
I think Pelosi wants him to declare a national emergency, thinking she can beat him in court.
She may be right. The court may side with Democrats and stop the wall in its tracks. But at that point public outrage will be redirected against the Democrats and 2020 will turn into a nightmare of defeat for Democrats.
In other words, Pelosi has already lost. One way or the other.
How in the name of making sense would anyone but Trump and his supporters believe any sort of national emergency just because Trump declares one while holding fast to the government shutdown Trump is proud to call his own?
Beyond explanation this sort of "thinking."
Trump is our "national emergency," becoming more and more dangerous by the day!

Illegals leeching off the taxpayers, stealing billions every single year.
Please explain to me why American taxpayers should foot the bill for millions of non-citizens?
America shouldn't be the world's homeless shelter.
The only experts who have an opinion on the wall that matters are the ones in charge of border security. Border Patrol agents are heavily in favor of a wall, and their opinion should bear far more weight than a congressman who only visits the Border for photo ops.
Nobody is talking about a wall stretching all the way across the southern border. That isn't what Trump has proposed, and it isn't what the $5 billion is for. Large portions of the border are impassable for the average human and don't need a barrier. However, there are also large portions where a wall will be very effective for controlling border crossings.
As for Hurd, his idea is to use electronic surveillance equipment. While electronic surveillance is a good idea in conjunction with a barrier, by itself it is simply a way to watch the illegals cross. It does nothing to stop them or slow them down on its own. If it did, we'd all just set our alarms and leave the doors and windows open when we left home.
Not sure how many times we can revisit the border agents or walls work argument, but no doubt if another 3,000 comments are devoted to repeating the same thing, we'll finally have made some progress understanding the crux of the issue here!
He may be unpolished but I'm more concerned about policy than personality. We need a secure border and he is the only one pushing for it. That's what's important to me.
Like a friend of mine also likes to suggest, "it isn't what Trump says but what he does." As if what Trump does (or doesn't do) isn't just as bad if not worse than what he says...
Like your dismissal of Trump's personality. The suggestion is that Trump's policy is any better...
Problem is all the above!
Trump's personality is the "icing on the cake," and just as the cake stinks, so too the icing is perfect on top.
