https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/20/u...eclining-.html

Secondly, yes, some people crossing are coming for nefarious reasons.....drugs, sex trafficking, etc. Gonna happen, but those people are in the vast minority. The majority are simply desperate people who are escaping horrible circumstances, and who want the same chances for their children that you and I had.

As for that " 100 billion" figure that you are parroting from your leader Trump, as with everything else that comes out of his mouth, it is grossly inflated and incorrect. He, and you, are quoting flawed studies. This is more accurate:

http://checkyourfact.com/2018/11/11/...t-100-billion/
This isn't so much a data fail as a logic fail. That poster cited a flawed study measuring costs for illegal immigrants plus their US citizen children already IN the country.

The cost of NEW illegal immigrant crossings - which is what the wall is designed to prevent - equals the cost of preventing the entry (cost of border security) plus the cost to deport those apprehended (expedited, these days except for certain groups like asylum seekers) plus the illegal-immigration-cost of any who are not caught by border patrol.

The 30,000 apprehension figure also is misused. It reflects just that - apprehensions. What it measures is (1) crossing demand, which overall is down and (2) ability of CPB to prevent unauthorized entry. The figure you'd want is the number who successfully evade CPB. Per all data that figure is not substantial (lots of data showing net illegal immigrant loss in recent years).

Demand is up among household units and unaccompanied children (now accounting for about half) who are seeking asylum.

Whatever one's take on various immigration issues, a wall does not help with most of them. It's a distraction at best - that (at the worst) makes a heck of a mess for a bunch of American landowners along the Rio Grande Valley.

Here let me help you, from the OP's supplied link. Does this say the wall will be totally funded? No. No it does not.

Rep. Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee, one of the GOP negotiators, said he is aiming for slightly more than $1.6 billion in fencing money, and signaled that Trump had backed off his demands for $5.7 billion.

“I think the political reality is, we can’t get to that,” Fleischmann said. “I think he understands that we’re operating under a divided government scenario and we’ve got to get the best deal that we can get.

Sure, if you want to take the thread title "literally". If they'd said part of the wall instead would you be happy then? What difference does it make it you call it a fence, wall, barrier? The Secure Fence Act was inaccurately called a fence also when it was to be for double barriers not a mere fence.

Of course the wall won't be totally funded with $5 billion and most of us know that. If you want to attack the OP then go ahead and do so I don't feel like playing semantics with you.

Trump now is just playing cover-your-ass ow. There's no way Republicans are going to allow him to shut down the government every time he wants another billion or so to build some more footage.

The case for a wall needs to be made on its own merit to Congress. That already failed -or never seriously got started.

Hopefully if there are areas where current walls DO need expanded this has not poisoned the political environment to where sensible compromise is not possible.

Talking The picture is clear...

tRump won't get "his wall", no matter what.

But he and his Trumplings will cheer that some extension of the fence that's been under construction for the past 12 years is a big win.

Trouble is, almost all of that fence was constructed by Obama; something like 600 miles. A lot more than tRump is gonna get, even if he remains in office for the next two years.

And he never forced a govt shutdown over it.

Carry on.

Shrug. The things you folks think of as success.....
He sucker punched the Dems with a $30B claim.
It was never going to cost that much, so he spread the word - and all the media bought it - that The Wall was going to be - "I dunno, 25, 30 million, whatever" - when the truth is most of The Wall can be built for much, much less.
That way when Dems give "just a little", they actually have given him everything.

The most amusing aspect is, that tRump is now fighting to extend "Obama's Wall."

The 650 miles of border fence erected as part of the Secure Fence Act of 2006 was mostly built under the Obama Admin.

tRump's wall will never happen.

n 2016, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump proposed building a border wall "as high as 55 feet" along the U.S.–Mexican border, making the pledge the centerpiece of his campaign.[9] Trump's proposed wall—which he said would consist of 2,000 miles "of hardened concrete, and ... rebar, and steel" across the entire southern border[23] would be much more extensive than the fencing built under the 2006 act.[10][24] On January 25, 2017, days after taking office, Trump issued Executive Order 13767, directing construction of a U.S. border wall. However, the wall was not constructed as Congress has not appropriated the funds to build it.[25][26] Some experts doubt that the border wall proposed by Trump would actually stop illegal immigration, or would have any benefits commensurate with the anticipated high cost of construction, estimated to be billions of dollars.[27][28] Trump’s demand for Congress to appropriate $5.7 billion for the wall resulted in the 2018–19 United States federal government shutdown, which lasted for 35 days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Fence_Act_of_2006

So, let's refer to it as it really is.

Obama's Wall

But it's really a fence.

Uh huh, and pigs fly. Face it, YOUR BOY LOST...….BIGLY ! He thought he would hold his breath and get his big, beautiful wall, and all he did was shoot himself in the foot. His ratings dropped, people who once supported him were denied their paychecks, and it cost the country unimaginable harm and money.

If he tries this little boneheaded trick again, even his most staunch supporters, and his own party, will put the brakes on it. He failed, and we all know it. Pelosi called his bluff and she was the winner.
