I thought the speech was necessary. It was a [repetition] of what most of us already know.
What is mind boggling to me is how [Trump] can spin the same lies, as if we’re stupid. [He is] for the wall, but now [is trying to distract the public from FBI investigations on him]. They are for giving billions in aid to the corrupt South America countries whose citizens are trying to bust into this country, yet they won’t give the president [5 billion dollars]. It is only [rational to argue against such a steep invest with 0 return]. How they can blame the President for the shut down with a straight face is [unsurprising]. They truly have no shame.
The teleprompter he read from wasn't even behind the camera. His eyes were always off to the left which gave it an odd effect.
It seemed every time he came up on a word that had more than 2 syllables, he would pause trying to figure it out before continuing on.
It was so obviously scripted, deadpan, un-emotional that it just might qualify for the worst delivery ever.
Exactly. Short and full of the usual fact bending and out right lies. Looked like he was forced by his advisors to go on air. I was kinda expecting the usual fire and brimstone rhetoric but he looked bored and uninterested.
Can we agree it did not further the cause of either side.
I suspect Trump's speech will be followed up by a series of polls from both sides of the issue and some who claim to be neutral.
It will be interesting to see what the outcome is.
While the absolute value of Trump's approval polls can be debated..the upward or downward trend after this 'big' speech will be a reasonable measure of his effectiveness.
Unimpressed, basically the same falsehoods and half truths he's been spouting all along. The only difference is "terrorists" weren't mentioned (unless I was in the bathroom at that time).

You think his advisers wanted him to go on?
I thought it was him trying to use this as some grand statement to the country. It seemed very dramatic with little to really show for it. You think his advisers would have suggested that was a good idea.
Pretty much what people thought about the speech is a partisan issue. If someone hates Trump it was terrible, If someone hates Pelosi and Schumer their response was terrible.
He made America sound like this idyllic law abiding place that is being besieged by infidels and barbarians from Mexico. I don't think anyone is buying it except people who don't want anymore egg on their faces.

I can't stand Trump and don't like Pelosi or Schumer, but both statements were pretty milquetoast and won't move the needle either way, in my opinion.
When Trump requested this air time, I thought he had some important new discovery or announcement that compelled prime-time audiences to listen. Instead it was a lot more of the same.
