Trump suggests the US should form a state-run, global news network to counter CNN's 'unfair' coverage.

President Donald Trump on Monday suggested the US should form a state-run, global news network to counter what he called "unfair" coverage from CNN.

"While CNN doesn't do great in the United States based on ratings, outside of the U.S. they have very little competition," Trump said via Twitter. "Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way."

The president added, "Something has to be done, including the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the World the way we really are, GREAT!"

The concept of state-run news outlet is controversial in democratic societies because of its association with authoritarian regimes and propaganda. In countries like North Korea and China, media is strictly controlled and monitored by the government.

Not surprised Trump wants a government propaganda outlet. All his buddies have one. Putin has one, Kim has one, the Chinese have one.

We’ve all had the discussion about how close we’re getting to the book but it seems every few weeks Trump nudges the U.S that way.

I wonder if Trump will have anybody who criticizes him arrested like in V for Vendetta (I actually think V for Vendetta is a more accurate depiction of where Trump wants to take this country than A Handmaid's Tale is). Furthermore I wonder if he'd eventually propose a ban on private media?

There are numerous articles, some of them really quite good, talking of this issue. Welcome to dystopia.

Actually, what you call DNC propaganda outlets are actually capitalist ventures taking advantage of the free market.

Don't get me wrong, they are definitely doing propaganda for the Dems, but they are not state controlled, but rather feeding their market what they want to hear in exchange for $$$ from advertisers.

1984 is the Democrat/Leftist/Media playbook, although Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" is right up there also.
