Trump steps back from Mexico border threat as companies warn of economic fallout.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the largest U.S. business lobbying group, has been in contact with the White House to discuss the “very negative economic consequences that would occur across the country,” said Neil Bradley, the group’s top lobbyist, on a call with reporters.
I've lost all respect for the USCC as they have become a globalist entity.

I hope Trump doesn't back down. Mexico needs the US far more than we need their Avocados.

Better than that, we can start making it all here again!

Trump won’t shut the boarder. It’s just something else that comes to his mind without any thought on what the consequences would be. And this thought will soon be gone when someone informs him that it would hurt our country. But then another thought will come to his head. He’s become very predictable

Capitalism is globalism. Capitalists are internationalists. An American corporation stays here only so long as it is profitable.

Globalism is the future. Immigrants are good for the economy. Let them in you bigots.

The problem is you cannot be globalist on some things and nationalist on other things and expect it to work.
Our healthcare and pharma industry has such sky high prices because they will not openly allow compting drug companies into our markets.

Also, 60% of the country make close to minimum wage thanks to globalism, how can you expect them to pay first world costs for healthcare and housing on globalist wages?

The housing market is globalist where foreign investors come in and drive housing prices up.

There is not one country on the earth that does not have protections in place for their workers except ours.

Why does capitalism exist?

Keep in mind, the birthplace of capitalism was under monarchies. And it has been adopted by despots around the world. Pinochet was a dictator who hated democracy, but he adopted the same Neo-liberal economic policies that we see all over the world, including in China.

What are the "national interests" of the United States? Why are we a superpower? What would happen to American competitiveness if wages doubled?

This isn't the post-WWII era where we were the only industrial power not destroyed by war. If we don't maintain our edge, you'll be speaking Mandarin soon.

Shhh. You are ruining the theme here.

Trump has zero idea what a supply chain is.

Brother! Some of you have no idea how intertwined your economy is with your neighbours, both north and south.

All those car parts shipped hither and yon before finally arriving for assembly. They don't get here guess what happens next...massive lay-offs to companies already threatening to move to friendlier (cheaper) climates.

Remember Carrier? Just add on a huge list of companies like Navistar, Chrysler, all of those using Mexican made electrical parts in their vehicles. Wiping out your own economic gains over the last year just to keep your one hot-button "watch me" issue percolating and the voters eyes off the real ball is just crazy.

Except it isn't. You really expect anyone to admit the truth?

It's about both and no matter how it's spun it makes Trump's statement about closing the border an indictment of his inability to consider his words.

The good ol' boys like to laugh at avocados.

They should also note that many of their favorite trucks come from Mexico including:

Dodge RAM
Chevrolet Silverado
GMC Sierra
Toyota Tacoma

in addition to many autos from various manufacturers.

Audi Q5
Chevrolet Cruze
Chevrolet Sonic
Dodge Journey
Ford Fiesta
Ford Fusion
Honda Fit
Honda HR-V
Honda CR-V
Kia Forte
Nissan Versa
Nissan Sentra
Volkswagen Jetta

The largest industry in the USA would be crippled by a border closure since many parts for new cars come from Mexico whether they are listed as being made there or not.
