Many foods have been proved to be unhealthy or even cause cancer, but people keep eating them. Such as BBQ (with burnt meat), pickled vegetables, margarine...

GMO vegetables and fruits are not *proved to be unhealthy, at least. The risk is mainly on agriculture, such as untested resistance to cold and insects.

You may grow your own plants without pesticides but commercial organic growers do indeed use them. Whatever you plant has indeed been genetically altered by selective breeding.

I read the preview available at Amazon. I totally agree that commercially grown tomatoes are often not worth eating. It appears that the part of the book not available for preview largely deals with the risks of pesticides, so a GMO tomato that reduced the used of pesticides would appear to me to be a Good Thing. GMO that improved flavor and texture would be wonderful.

However, there are no commercially available GMO tomatoes at this time.

Thanks for letting me know the GMO, shrimp scare was not true.

We plant marigolds in with the tomatoes. It is keeps some bugs away. Now, if only we could get the seeds granny had.

Living now in PA. I make it a point to buy all my fresh veggies from a local Amish Farmers Market. Are they using GMO veggies? My herbs I grow myself; inside and outside.

Did you know It's common knowledge among gardeners to never fertilize their gardens using cow manure from cows fed "certified weed free" hay? Why? Because the glyphosate (Roundup) the hay was sprayed with travels through the cow and will then kill garden plants. Monsanto/Bayer poison our food supply. Then when the food makes us sick, give us more poison in little white capped brown bottles. Read about Bayer's connection to/involvement in Auschwitz. I won't support any company owned by Bayer.
