Americans are not being exploited. China has not taken advantage of us. The American companies who decided to do business in China signed on to what China wanted in order to do business there. The companies could have refused and stayed in the USA.
If Americans are guilty of anything, it is greed. Wanting cheap products while knowing Americans were being put out of work is our cross to bear.

It is governments job to tax and tariff to keep us on a level playing field with the rest of the world. Sadly several admins from both parties have done nothing, or simply got it backwards. Applying the liberal tax program to cheap imports, and offering incentives and breaks to companies manufacturing products in the USA would have gone a long ways.

See how that attitude holds up when our nation is broke and nothing but a massive consumer and service group, and you're living with 10 of your relatives in one tiny apartment.
Every country does this, they tariff imports from other countries to keep their domestic products competitive. England for example, has 40% tariffs on goods from the USA as they are one of the most expensive nations in the world to produce goods due to the cost of living and lack of raw materials. Without that, literally nothing would be made there and England would go broke in no time.
Btw, the Walton family is or was, one of the largest campaign contributors in the US. Assumingly, to keep the tables tilted their way and the Chinese goods flowing at nearly zero tariffs.
