I wouldn't do it, but it's actually good for the long term benefit of lions.
If they are of no monetary value, farmers kill em.

If the lions have monetary value, the farmers don't kill them.
If there is no profit motive to spare them, they are merely pests.
I posted a video several times (below) where
a conservationist relates how banning lion hunting in Botswana
resulted in an ultimate loss of lions.
At least this wasn't Cecil the lion that was killed, or another special named iconic lion. This one appears to be just an unimportant random lion with no special name.
