Rudy received international attention related to 9/11. He turned it and his story of being a crime fighter into a money making machine in the speaker’s circuit.

Rudy has been out of office 18 years. Today, it is safer than it’s been since the 1950’s. If you are inclined to credit Rudy for the reduced crime rate during his two terms, then you have to attribute the current situation to de Blasio.
Sadly, the democrats hate the police, even have encouraged harassment and disrespect of them. They totally disrespect and disobey laws they don’t agree with. They’ve even thrown feces and urine at ICE and Border Patrol Agents. So unless we get a majority of republicans in Congress again we will never see an increase in police or law enforcement.

Nice broad brush you have there.

Crime in NYC began to decline in 1991. Rudy took office in 1994.

Crime substantially declined all over the US during the same period. It did not matter who was mayor, which party or strategy, or lack of strategy used.

18 years later, Under de Blasio, crime in NYC have never been lower since the 1950’s.

Mayor Dinkins changed the policing guidelines, and crime started falling rapidly. Fortunately Rudy followed suit plus he enacted a anti-gun policies.

Those who study crime, have no consensus as to why per capita crime rates substantially declined all over the US during the 90’s.

Theories are varied including but not limited to the percentage of the population who practice Transcendental Meditation, Rowe v Wade substantially reducing births to single impoverished mothers, decline in Cocaine trade, more LE, massive gentrification, etc.

Lets give the Republicans a chance with these two cities. But it won't be a one term fix.

NYC was a sanctuary city under Rudy. His Admin protected illegals and the city refused to cooperate with INS.
Rudy understood who buttered his bread.

The majority of violent crime in Chicago happens in 5/25 Police Districts. These are gang infested communities, which tend not to cooperate with LE. Some protect family members and some are afraid of the very real risk of retaliation. Snitch and your mom, siblings and children become targets.

The greatest decline in population in Chicago is happening in the worst neighborhoods. Some local schools trend ghost towns and have been closed. Chicago has had School Choice for more than 30 years with a huge emphasis over the past 15 years. All schools reflect the performance of their students.

Believe it or not, Baltimore used to be a majority white city for most of its history until the 1970s.

Then, something happened and the crime rate in the city skyrocketed. Baltimore hasn't been the same since.

Sorry for the late post, but I wonder if that question could fit Detroit as well thinking of how the relations between the city of Detroit and Oakland county would had turned on each side of 8 Mile Road?
