China is quite capable of manufacturing build to last products if that is what’s specified and paid for by the brand placing the order.

Made to last is not conducive to repeat purchases. Without repeat purchase, the brand will be challenged to survive.

How about your household appliances? Carrier makes most stuff in Mexico.

I looked hard on Amazon and even on some other sites that make stuff I bought....no Country of Origin stated.

Some of this may be due to the supply chains. I'd be very surprised if my Mexican assembled VW didn't have at least 20 countries represented (maybe more!) inside.

Brains are the currency of the new world and as long as the US "makes" more of those we will be fine.
Thought Trump and Pence saved all those $25/ hr , plus benefits and pension jobs in Indiana. Lol

Chinese stuff is made with crap Chinese steel, which is more like iron. Even if US products cost more initially, they usually don't break like Chinese crap.
China delivers to specifications. China, like any other place, can produce high quality and crap. Depends on what the importer specifies and pays for.

Until very recently, nearly every Trump Org retail product was made anywhere but the US. This includes clothing, leather goods, jewelry, commercial furniture, bedding etc..

( tons of other links behind paywalls

Legacy human rights violations in foreign factories that produced Trump org products are legendary.

It was precious when Kellyanne urged Fox News viewers to buy Ivanka’s made anywhere but the US products.

Trump Org recently closed most of these businesses due to lousy optics and ongoing questions about the sources of capital.

I think they also closed them because they were not making money...like Trumps real estate, casinos, "university", airline and all the rest.

Normally - even in the USA (know-nothings) such hypocrisy would not be tolerated...even by his supporters. It's well known that he has used illegal labor HERE for decades, including today!

But with Trump cultists there is no line of ethics that cannot be crossed. That's the very idea of it. The nastier and more hypocritical they are, the more his fans approve.

No one could believe it if you wrote Fiction with such a story line.

Might I suggest some reading - start with this:
https://www.amazon.com/Reckoning-Dav.../dp/0688048382

In this case they are talking about Japan, but the basics are the same. Japanese steel was vastly better than American steel as of 1970.

Do you really think the Bullet Trains, Rockets, Missiles, Highways, Bridges, Dams, wind machines, solar panels and thousands of other items using Chinese steel and metals are "crap"?

Read.

Even Ford (Henry II himself) capitulated to buying foreign steel when he found out American plants didn't even make the modern product (rustproof)....and he didn't make that decision easily......50 years ago!

For every day items I never check. When a big ticket item is purchased usually not either. Many items may be assembled here but the parts come from many places.

This includes the engine.

And if you were to take your company to Shark Tank for funding they would tell you that you have to get your costs down and that probably means going overseas.

Or Home Depot (GOP owned)
Or Target
Or Wall-Mart
Or most any vendor that counts......

Remember when Sam Walton said he'd keep 90% of the products in Walmart American-made? That wasn't too long ago (1990's).

Food & beverage -- try to buy local first, region second, country third.
I tend to buy name brand stuff for toiletries......so American products. Not sure I would ever buy Chinese toothpaste & such...eeek.

Other stuff clothing, junk, etc. -- I never look.

I'm one of those that think we can trade with other countries and even operate with a trade deficit and still have a sustainable, even growing economy.

We just have to find our niche.

Producing massive amts. of cheap stuff doesn't have to be the only way a country's economy can thrive.
