This thought popped into mind last night. WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, & Bosnia/Kosovo were all begun with a Democratic Party US President. Desert Storm and the war in Afghanistan & Iraq by Republican presidents.

When a war starts under a Democratic President, the Republicans often say that the Democratic President isn’t fighting hard enough. We saw this in Korea, Vietnam, and throughout Clinton’s and Obama’s Presidencies when it came to the Middle East, North Korea, and (until Trump came along) Russia. McCain is famous for wanting war, and Romney ran on a war platform in 2012. The Republicans Clinton’s nuclear deal with North Korea and Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran. They attacked Clinton for insufficient intervention in Iraq and Obama for pulling out of Iraq and for insufficient intervention in Syria.

Pre-Reagan and all the way up to Richard Nixon's tenure, it was pretty obvious that the Democrats were the warhawks and the Republicans were the ones keeping/getting us out of wars. Love him or hate him, Reagan move the GOP into the super-militaristic space.

Vietnam started under Eisenhower, Bosnia wasn't really a war. WW2 and Korea had legitimate reasons for our involvement and were approved by both parties as were all wars we have been involved.

Saying that Democrats "started" WWI and WWII is pretty funny considering conservatives are always whining about "revisionist" history.

This is actually not quite right. US involvement in Vietnam started under Truman. Truman wanted France as an ally, and helped them in Vietnam to gain favor. By 1952 (prior to Ike taking office) the US was funding over 40% of French military costs in Vietnam.

Eisenhower hated war, having had his fill of it as allied supreme commander in WWII (I would argue that Ike hated war to a fault, and left behind several messes as a result). Ike did everything he could to de-escalate in Vietnam. The US troop build-up did not come until under JFK took office.

We had zero reason to be in ww1.

I'm not going to derail this thread but most of the problems the world face today was because Wilson wanted to turn America into a global power and sided with the British.

The Lusitania was propaganda used to get American war support, when in reality the British mislead the Germans into thinking it was a war ship.

In near months the US government took over the media and turned a passive population into a bunch of racist anti-Germanic hooligans.

The problems we face today, partitioned India with a nuclear Pakistan, a hot zone in Kashmir where the majority of the world's population finds fresh water, the Israeli Palestine issue, European colonization of Syria and Iraq leading into the modern day Jihadist movement, the house of Saud, The Ayatollahs in Iran, the fall of Reza Shah, the cold war, the Vietnam war, Hitler, and modern day neoliberalism can be sourced back to world war 1 and the british/french victory that lead to deeper colonization and ethnic partition.

The German territories in eastern Europe would have kept Ukraine independent, ended the Bolsheviks, and stopped American military might from ruling the world.

The power hunger behavior of DC politicians lead by Wilson destroyed the modern world in more ways than one.

The trillions spent on the Iraq war probably plays a part.

Indeed it was Wilson who initiated the idea of US as a global police force, which continued on under Republican and Democratic admins alike for the next 100 years. Wilson also bollixed the aftermath of WWI due to his ignorance, which led directly to WWII.

I am no fan of Donald Trump, but one thing that has to be admitted is that he is a non-interventionist who has tried to dial back overseas involvement. "Stay out of pointless foreign wars" was one of the three main planks in his 2016 platform.
