What does "woke" mean? I'm seeing used more and more in CD and have no idea what it means.
From the Wikipedia entry for "Woke":
Quote:
Woke (/ˈwoʊk/) as a political term of African American origin refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice.[1] It is derived from the African-American Vernacular English expression "stay woke", whose grammatical aspect refers to a continuing awareness of these issues.
By the late 2010s, woke had been adopted as a more generic slang term and has been the subject of memes and ironic usage.[2] Its widespread use since 2014 is a result of the Black Lives Matter movement.[1][3]
From a Standard English-type standpoint, I suppose that using "aware" might be more practical.

Of course, tying it back into the OP that it's a new religion, to be "woke" is literally terminology harking back to the American religious revivals of the 1800s.
Tack on some good ole' fashioned "dogma which should not be questioned," excommunication, purity tests, ingroup and outgroup worldview, and good vs. evil narrative, and you've got the biggest scam religion since L. Ron Hubbard.
If only. It's more like a mass conversion akin to the transition of the Roman Empire from pagan to Christian.
Wake me up when "Woke" has it's own holy book and is the mandatory state religion.
