This thread isn't about abortion... gee, carry a chip on your shoulder much?
Poor people that live in cities, most likely live very green already. They don't drive Hummers to their job and they don't have a MacMansion to heat and cool.
have a nice evening.

It's not about war, either.

And they don't like being told what to eat, how to live, and why they need to keep quiet.

Same to you.

But chances are that they don't recycle. They probably also don't buy healthier, organic food and throw away all their plastic bags rather than spend money on cloth bags and can't afford twisty lightbulbs ...

I do find it rather odd when people who drive SUVs and live in far-flung suburbs complain about gas prices or commuting times. If you aren't satisfied with your economic decisions, why didn't you make different ones? Why not make different ones now? Ever since the oil crunch of the 1970's, we have known that gas prices are subject to swings and shocks. That's no surprise. We've known since then that you simply can't bank on cheap oil forever, and that living in a way that requires cheap oil might be economically troublesome at some future time.

I'm not trying to harangue anyone, since I don't live in a city, either. But let's be realistic about the nature of our economic decisions.

The environment, whether in actual crisis or not, is certainly something that deserves vigilance at all times.

Having said that, living "Green" seems to be like Surfing or Buddhism. People love the idea, style and culture of the whole thing. But actually doing it? That is something different.

I don't mind being green and paying for it but only when its real... I would pay more for salmon to prevent overfishing, I would pay more for products that don't use lead or mercury... I would pay more for less CFC emissions... I would pay more to go camp at a park if that money went into cleaning it up and preserving it... I won't pay for CO2 emissions because of bunk science.. the companies don't like that I don't want to pay them... Al Gore doesn't like it either when he has invested millions into it and stands to make BILLIONS from a carbon credit system..
I agree completely. Everyone should do their part to reduce their energy consumption (I only make sure to turn off lights in unoccupied rooms because it lowers my electric bill) but spending thousands of dollars on "going green" is silly...especially when it really doesn't make a difference at all. No, I'm not going to start purchasing "sustainable" bamboo sheets, or the special "green" floor cleaners. It's quite obvious to anyone with a brain that this is only marketing by multi-billion dollar conglomerates to sell more products.

Not true where I live now and not true in the last place I lived in for many years. Everyone has a recycling bin and in fact here, they even give you credits, depending on how much you recycle. Every quarter they then send you a gift certificate for a store of your choice. As far as organic food, locally grown organic is best, but local conventionally grown food is most likely superior environmentally to organically grown food flown in from New Zealand or who knows there. Eating seasonally AND locally is the cheapest way to eat, so those that have to stretch their money would get the most food for their money this way. The little farmer market I buy at in the summer is over 50% cheaper than the local supermarket. Also you can buy the "twisty" bulbs for $1 on sale regularly in our local hardware store, no more expensive than regular lightbulbs, who are sold there for $2.09 for a pack of two. Lots of things people can do that don't cost them any more than their usual lifestyle, in fact it will save them money. But the good part is, no one if forcing this on anyone. If you want to drive your SUV, buy a MacMansion and eat all your food imported from China, New Zealand and South America, you can may do so
