If you can explain to me how most presidents before him were NOT morally bankrupt and corrupt.
Trump is in bed with Russia, our most dangerous enemy at this time. Trump is forcing religion on us at gunpoint. Homelessness is soaring under Trump. America is fast becoming a banana republic.
I don't think anyone should fully trust or rely on their government (our founding fathers were correct), and I hope what we have seen continues to burn the flame of skepticism in people towards our government moving forward.
People shouldn't trust or rely on government at all, ever.
Government is the number one enemy of the people, across all cultures and time, always and everywhere. Before he sold out, Patrick Henry said basically the same thing during the Constitution debates in the VA House.
If Trump's presidency results in even a handful of people dropping both parties and going fully anti-state, period, then it was marginally useful. That's always been my hope with him, being such a caricature that he forces the others to reveal themselves more fully which ends up driving more people away from all of them entirely.
Hopefully, if he accomplishes not another thing, Americans are simply less naive and willfully ignorant about their government. Liars, rapists, thieves and murderers...the lot of them.
Almost correct-----couldn't have asked for a better person to ruin this country.
Exactly.
The people who supported Trump had a lot of respectable points. I agree that special interests have had too much control over our government, it is and has been government for sale.
'Drain the Swamp' is a good catchphrase. I can relate to that.
But Trump? He was exactly what you don't want, exactly the opposite of what is called for to reform the government and root out corruption.
To be clear, it wasn't all that obvious early in the campaign. He could have turned out far different. He did, for instance, claim to be self funded and not beholding to any. Imagine what he could have done with that? He could have backed an amendment to get dark money out of politics forever and freed us from this cycle of deceit and exploitation. He was just the man to do it.
If Trump had accomplished just those two things he would have been the most popular president in decades, and would have deserved the accolades. He wasn't up to it.
Instead he went right for the jugular: Tax breaks for the filthy rich, replete with special new loopholes for his own lines of business! I still remember him bragging at Mar-A-Lago (membership $200k per year): "I just made you all a whole lot richer!"

The Democrat base sure does love McCarthyism. Even debunked McCarthyism.
As s lifelong Republican voter, what I saw in Trump on the campaign trail in 2016 was a policy lightweight with no interest in detail, no intellectual curiosity, and no depth. His campaign was underpinned by name-calling and promises that could easily fit into a tweet but could not withstand even a modicum of scrutiny. As such, I could not vote for him.
But when he was elected, I was cautiously optimistic and hoped he would do as promised: act more Presidential than he had on the campaign trail, surround himself with and rely on "the best" intelligent advisors, stop the influence of dark money, reform our tax code to make it simpler and eliminate loopholes, replace the ACA with something better, etc.
Instead he flushed the opportunity to be a transformative President down the toilet by failing to live up to any of his promises and instead focusing on promoting himself, undermining our institutions, and demonizing half of the American populace.
Different doesn't necessarily mean better. Most revolutions make things worse for the people.
