Mitch McConnell said that he would be following the Clinton model for the Trump trial. Nothing else could be further from the truth. McConnell will be limiting the testimony of prosecution and defense within a 48 hour period. A motion for dismissal could come at any time.

1. Testimony by those who have testified in the impeachment hearings may never be heard.
2. Testimony by new witnesses may never be heard.
3. Documents may never be presented.

This 48 hour trial will go down in history as more evidence of the erosion of our Republic.

For the love of G-d.

He does not need due process rights. Even if by some miracle the senate voted to uphold the impeachment, the POTUS will not be deprived of his right to life, liberty or the persute of happiness.

The House trial, run with testimony mainly behind closed doors, was the surest sign of the diminution of our republic.

It is the Senate’s job to vote solely on House case testimony. There is supposed to be a vote on the articles as written, and NOT an ever-evolving set of charges and supposedly “new evidence “.

So you agree he committed no crime. That’s progress.

Wrong.
Speaker Pelosi, Adam Schiff, and Jerry Nadler expedited the impeachment timeline and made the conscious decision to do so without judicial resolutions on the witnesses they may have wanted to call.
They say their evidence is overwhelming. Nadler said in his presser, "this is an open and shut case". Now they get to try their case, with the evidence they have brought forward in the House. The burden is on the accuser. Not the accused.

The rules haven't be decided yet, and you are misrepresenting what has been proposed.

What has been proposed is to use the same process that was used in the Clinton impeachment trial, which all 100 senators agreed to.

This will not be a 48 hour trial.

The House will get to present the evidence it collected in the House impeachment.

There will be an opportunity to debate the need for witnesses.

Mitch McConnell is following the directions of the accused Trump, a fair trial is not what he wants.

those poor Senate Democrats are going to be so disappointed that the heresay testimony spewed during the House investigation won't be allowed during the "trial." Heresay evidence is not allowed in any court in the land, or in Judge Judy's court either.

That leaves Sondland with direct testimony and he already testified Trump said "no quid pro quo" Who's left? The Senate is not going to start any investigations, that's absurd, this is a trial, the investigations are over, the Senate has the charges and testimony, they'll determine a verdict on what they have in front of them.

Want Bolton, Mulvaney and crew to testify, the House can start new investigations, issue subpeonas, and work through the court system to compel them to testify, it ain't gonna happen now.

Wake up! Many of you make no sense at all. Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress are the charges. Good luck!

Evidence only hurts the defense. So expect Republicans to keep evidence away by any and all means. They already lost a chunk of their voters when the facts came out. A damaging senate trial is what they want to avoid.

It is my understanding the crime is whatever the House says it is.

And where does the Constitution indicate impeachment must name a crime?

It says high crimes or other misdemeanors.

It does say bribery is impeachable. The whole world knows bribery was involved. That came from the chief of staff and OMB director Mulvaney.

Wish all the nations newspaper would do what the Houston Chronicle does every single 4th of July. They print the Constitution.
